JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for instructing high school students (grades 9-12) in building trades techniques and safety practices in alignment with the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) requirements. This role involves designing curriculum, delivering hands-on training, and fostering an engaging, safe learning environment that encourages skill development, problem-solving, and career exploration in welding

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate curriculum that meets the FLDOE requirements and prepare students for industry certification
  • Provide instruction in building trades techniques
  • Integrate technical skills with theoretical concepts, safety protocols, and workplace readiness skills.
  • Instruct students in the proper handling and maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Ensure that all classroom and shop activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety by teaching and enforcing protective measures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assess student’s skills and knowledge through practical exams, projects, and written tests.
  • Support students in attaining industry-recognized certifications.
  • Track and document student progress in alignment with school and state reporting requirements.
  • Encourage students to explore building trades careers, supporting them in career readiness and pathway planning.
  • Offer guidance on apprenticeships, trade schools, and further training opportunities in the field.
  • Participate in school events and initiatives to promote the program and student achievements.
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Collaborate with other CTE teachers and industry partners to enhance CTE programs.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements.
  • Prepare students for certification exams and entry-level employment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
  • This position includes a mix of classroom teaching and hands-on instruction in a workshop/lab environment.
  • Compliance with all safety guidelines is mandatory
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid teaching certification in one of the designated building trades areas or a related field or ability to certify within 90 days based on Martin County Schools CTE certification process.
  • Extensive industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of safety standards and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage students.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and development.
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to teach in more than one CTE area a Plus!

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty (20) pounds.  Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
