About the Role
GFL Environmental is seeking a dedicated Commercial Industrial Route Supervisor to join our team in Winnipeg. In this role, you will oversee day-to-day transportation and hauling operations, manage driver performance, and maintain a cost-effective balance between exceptional customer service and operational efficiency. You will play a pivotal role in enforcing safety standards, optimizing route schedules, and ensuring full compliance with provincial and federal transport regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision: Manage, schedule, and direct daily activities for commercial drivers. Oversee driver vacation requests, performance reviews, and progressive discipline.
Safety & Compliance: Conduct regular pre- and post-trip inspections, lead driver safety training, and execute thorough accident investigations when incidents occur.
Route & Operational Efficiency: Partner closely with dispatch to relay schedule changes, streamline service lines, and optimize route efficiency.
On-the-Road Coaching: Perform routine ride-alongs ("sit-ins") to evaluate driver safety, reduce wear-and-tear, curb aggressive driving, and improve fuel economy.
Fleet Maintenance Coordination: Liaise with the fleet maintenance team to ensure all vehicles, safety equipment, lighting, and fittings are operating at peak condition.
Customer Relations & Issue Resolution: Serve as a point of contact for service escalation; address and resolve client issues promptly while maintaining cost effectiveness.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: 2–3 years of supervisory experience in waste management, transportation, or logistics. Hands-on experience with Front-End Loaders (FEL) and Roll-Off trucks is strongly preferred.
Licensing: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class 1 or Class 3) with an Air Brake (A) Endorsement preferred.
Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work early morning operational shifts (e.g., 3:00 AM start time) and adapt to changing daily requirements.
Core Skills: Strong communication, conflict resolution, and organizational abilities. Working knowledge of transport compliance, safety protocols, and route management software.
Safety Mindset: Proven track record of championing workplace health and safety.
