About the Role

As part of the Rural and Remote Health Discipline, the Senior Lecturer, Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP) will play a pivotal leadership role in delivering excellence in teaching and learning across the Doctor of Medicine program within the College of Medicine and Public Health at Flinders University. The position is instrumental in advancing high-quality medical education that prepares future doctors for practice in rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health contexts. Working collaboratively across key partnerships between the Northern Territory Government, Australian Government and Charles Darwin University, the role contributes to the development of a fit-for-context Northern Territory health and medical workforce.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing academic leadership in the design, delivery and continuous improvement of medical education across the Doctor of Medicine program, ensuring an exceptional student learning experience.
• Leading innovative teaching initiatives, including clinical skills training, simulation-based learning and work-integrated learning opportunities that prepare students for the unique challenges of rural and remote healthcare.
• Building and maintaining strong partnerships with health services, government agencies, community stakeholders and educational institutions to support workforce development across the Northern Territory.
• Driving curriculum development and educational best practice, with a focus on rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, while contributing to professional accreditation, quality assurance and strategic priorities.

 

This position makes a significant contribution to the University's strategic plan to change 10 million lives, Every One Matters, by 2035 through directly contributing to our Student Centric strategic driver, delivering exceptional medical education and preparing future doctors to meet the healthcare needs of rural, remote and Northern Territory communities.

 

About You

You are a passionate and experienced medical educator with a strong clinical background and a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. You bring the ability to inspire and support future medical professionals, particularly in rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health settings. A collaborative leader, you thrive on building meaningful partnerships, driving curriculum innovation and contributing to a high-performing academic environment focused on improving health outcomes across the Northern Territory.

To be successful in this position, you will have:

• Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA), supported by extensive contemporary clinical experience in acute and/or primary healthcare settings.
• A demonstrated track record of excellence in tertiary teaching, including the design, delivery and evaluation of innovative learning experiences across classroom, clinical and simulation-based environments.
• Well-developed knowledge of contemporary medical education practices, with experience in curriculum development and a commitment to enhancing student learning outcomes.
• Exceptional communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across the education, healthcare and community sectors.

 

Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT

At Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT, our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education, and workforce development across the Northern Territory.  We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, Rural Clinical School, and the University Department of Rural Health.

Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce.  All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community.

These include:

• Flinders University will require a current completed Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and Gender Based Violence Declaration which is satisfactory to the University. The contract of Employment is conditional upon the receipt of these completed compliance checks. A disclosable outcome will not automatically disqualify a candidate from consideration.
