Description

At M&G, our purpose is to give everyone real confidence to put their money to work. With a heritage dating back more than 175 years, we have a long history of innovation in savings and investments, combining asset management and insurance expertise to offer a wide range of solutions.

Our two distinct operating segments, Asset Management and Life, work together to provide access to balanced, long-term investment and savings solutions.

Through telling it like it is, owning it now and moving it forward together with care and integrity; we are creating an exceptional place to work for exceptional talent.

We will consider flexible working arrangements for any of our roles and offer workplace adjustments to ensure you have the support you need to succeed in your role.

Opportunity

M&G is a long-established player in Private Credit, serving a global client base and bringing three decades of experience in European credit markets. The Private Corporate Credit team manages 10 billion in liquid and illiquid strategies across Broadly Syndicated Loans, High Yield Bonds and Direct Lending. Sustainability is well embedded in the investment process.

Impact Private Credit is developing into a core growth area for M&G. In 2025, the team launched an Article 9, private credit mandate on behalf of Dutch institutional investors that targets positive outcomes. Several other clients are in advanced discussions for a similar strategy.

As our Impact Private Credit activity scales, we are seeking an Impact Investing Senior Associate to join the Private Corporate Credit investment team. This is an investment-facing role that combines impact analysis with close exposure to credit underwriting, fund management and engagement with private companies.

The successful candidate will work alongside fund managers, originators, credit analysts and sustainability specialists. Subject to oversight, they will assess whether prospective investments can deliver credible, measurable real-world outcomes without compromising the disciplined credit standards of our funds.

The Role

As an Impact Investing Senior Associate, you will:

  • Support the assessment of pipeline opportunities, preparing impact due diligence alongside the investment team’s credit analysis and responding to ad hoc questions and challenges as opportunities develop;

  • Contribute to the development and consistent application of impact measurement and management processes, reflecting market practice and evolving guidance;

  • Monitor the impact performance of investee companies and portfolios, supporting quarterly and annual reporting requirements;

  • Robustly engage with prospective and existing portfolio companies on impact intent, corporate purpose, sustainability performance, disclosure, impact metrics and relevant ESG and impact risks;

  • Record engagements, objectives and outcomes, maintaining reliable portfolio-level and investee-level data over time;

  • Support the maintenance and development of Private Credit impact frameworks, including theories of change, impact scoring, additionality assessment and outcome measurement;

  • Keep abreast of relevant regulation, policy, market standards and industry guidance, helping the team understand the practical implications for existing portfolios and new investments;

  • Support annual impact reports, client materials, responses to internal and external information requests, and occasional thought leadership;

  • Work with colleagues across Private Corporate Credit, wider Private Markets – including those responsible for other Impact strategies - Stewardship and Sustainability, Risk, Compliance, Product and Distribution to deliver clear and consistent impact analysis;

  • Build constructive relationships with external bodies and market participants, including standard-setters and impact-investing organisations.

About You

You will bring:

  • Experience in impact investing and sustainability, ideally from a Private Markets background, together with a clear desire to apply that expertise in an investment environment;

  • Practical understanding of impact measurement and management across a range of social and environmental themes;

  • Experience assessing, engaging with or monitoring companies seeking to deliver positive outcomes;

  • An ability to test impact claims critically, distinguish impact from broader ESG integration, and communicate conclusion;

  • Familiarity with recognised impact frameworks and metrics, such as GIIN and IRIS+, and an awareness of evolving market standards;

  • Working knowledge of relevant sustainability regulation, including SFDR and SDR;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce concise, high-quality material for senior, client and investment audiences;

  • Confidence working with both qualitative evidence and complex data and an ability to turn analysis into clear conclusions;

  • Effective stakeholder management and a collaborative style, with the judgement to work across investment, sustainability and client-facing teams;

  • A proactive approach, personal accountability and the ability to manage competing priorities while escalating uncertainties appropriately.

Working Environment

Private Corporate Credit is a team managing €10bn in assets under management, part of M&G’s broader €30 bn Private & Structured Credit business within its €90bn Private Markets. The investment team works across liquid and illiquid corporate credit and collaborates closely with dedicated origination, leveraged finance research, sustainability and client teams.

This Impact Investment Specialist role is deliberately embedded within the investment team. It is suited to someone who wants to deepen their specialist impact expertise while developing a practical understanding of credit underwriting and selection, portfolio construction and the responsibilities of investing client capital. The environment values sound judgement, intellectual curiosity, constructive challenge and collaboration.
