Description
Job Summary:
About UsWe are a growing SaaS company in the pre-hospital healthcare space, delivering mission-critical solutions that support emergency services and healthcare providers. Our platform is relied upon daily by agencies and clinicians who cannot afford downtime, so performance, security, and reliability sit at the center of every decision we make.
Position Overview
The Systems and Security Engineer owns our internal IT and infrastructure operations end to end. You will run the platforms our employees depend on, complete a migration to a Nutanix-based IaaS environment, and partner with our vCISO and software development team to keep our security and compliance program strong.
This is a hands-on ownership role, not a management role — you will be the person who designs the solution and then implements it. You will not inherit a runbook for everything; you will write the runbooks. That autonomy is the point.
We expect this work to be done with modern tooling, and that includes AI. We are not looking for someone who is curious about AI — we are looking for someone already using it to move faster: drafting automation, parsing logs, triaging tickets, generating documentation, reviewing configurations. If AI is not already part of how you work, this role will not be a fit.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Operations
• Own company infrastructure across virtualization, storage, and networking layers
• Lead the transition from on-premises infrastructure to a Nutanix-based IaaS platform
• Administer virtualization environments (Nutanix, VMware)
• Manage S3 and object storage — buckets, lifecycle policies, access controls, cost and capacity
• Own backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning, including regular restore testing
• Monitor system performance and capacity, and address issues before they become incidents
• Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability across all systems
• Participate in an on-call rotation for infrastructure and security escalations, and respond to after-hours incidents
• Use AI-assisted tooling to accelerate migration planning, config review, log analysis, and runbook authoring
Employee IT & Endpoint Management
• Own all employee IT operations: device provisioning, lifecycle management, and retirement
• Administer endpoint management and RMM tooling across laptops and mobile devices
• Build automated provisioning so a new laptop is configured, secured, and enrolled without manual touch
• Run help desk and day-to-day troubleshooting, and reduce recurring ticket volume through automation and self-service
• Deliver clean onboarding and offboarding — accounts, access, hardware, and data handled correctly and on time
• Improve IT processes, documentation, and service delivery over time
• Apply AI to ticket triage, knowledge base generation, script drafting, and first-line response
Security & Compliance
• Partner with our vCISO to implement and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures
• Support compliance programs across HIPAA, HITECH, and SOC 2, and align controls to NIST 800-171 and ISO/IEC 27001 where applicable
• Contribute to risk assessments, internal reviews, and external audits, and drive remediation to closure
• Maintain the evidence and documentation auditors ask for — access reviews, change records, configuration baselines
• Drive security awareness and training across the organization
• Use AI to accelerate control mapping, policy drafting, and evidence collection — while keeping a human in the loop on every compliance decision
Security Tools & Vulnerability Management
• Administer and operate CrowdStrike Falcon across the endpoint and server fleet
• Own vulnerability scanning, prioritization, and remediation workflows with defined SLAs by severity
• Monitor threats, investigate detections, and coordinate response with the vCISO and engineering stakeholders
• Harden systems against configuration drift and maintain secure baselines
• Use AI to summarize detections, correlate signals, and draft incident timelines and post-incident notes
Qualifications
Required
• 5+ years in IT operations, infrastructure engineering, or a comparable systems role
• Strong hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware and/or Nutanix)
• Experience managing or migrating to IaaS or hybrid cloud environments
• Working knowledge of S3 or comparable object storage — access policies, lifecycle management, backup targets
• Hands-on experience with endpoint management and internal IT support at organizational scale
• Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and control frameworks
• Experience with vulnerability management tooling and remediation processes
• Demonstrated use of AI tools in daily technical work
• Strong troubleshooting instincts and the judgment to know when to fix versus when to escalate
Preferred
• Nutanix or other hyperconverged infrastructure experience
• CrowdStrike Falcon administration
• NinjaRMM or comparable RMM platform administration
• Familiarity with security frameworks and standards: NIST 800-171, ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 2
• Healthcare compliance experience: HIPAA and HITECH
• Experience working with an external security partner or vCISO model
• Scripting and automation: PowerShell, Python, or Bash
• SaaS or high-availability production environment experience
What Success Looks Like
First 90 days
• You understand our full environment and have documented what exists today
• Actively involved in our ongoing IaaS migration
• Vulnerability backlog is triaged and prioritized with clear ownership
First year
• Completed cutover from on-premises infrastructure to IaaS with minimal disruption
• Automated provisioning fully in place — new hires productive on day one
• Vulnerability remediation running consistently within defined SLAs
• Audit and compliance evidence gathered continuously rather than scrambled for
• IT support that is fast, documented, and trusted by the team
Why Join Us
• Genuine ownership across IT, infrastructure, and security operations — your decisions ship
• A modernization mandate and the support to execute it
• Mission-driven work supporting emergency services and healthcare providers
• A team that expects you to use the best tools available and not follow the status quo
• Direct partnership with leadership and our vCISO on security strategy
