Job Summary:

This position provides Quality Engineering and Supervisory support to the organization as assigned, including responsibility for the day to day operations of the Quality Inspection group and a Quality Engineer. Supervises and directs the activities of Exempt and non-exempt inspection personnel. Develops, implements, and executes the quality system requirements for all product lines, services, or major project areas with particular emphasis on modern quality technology implementation. The quality support will include supplier quality management, and manufacturing quality, management work within the quality organization and other major business functions (i.e. Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, etc.) to develop and implement quality systems and methodologies as required to achieve organizational and company goals.

Job Model: On-Site

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

 

Responsibilities:

·        Consistent, regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.

·        Directs the activities of Inspection personnel & assigned Quality Engineer. Coordinates the effective utilization of manpower, equipment and materials.

·        Works cross functionally to implement proper inspection points in key process steps to protect the customer and brand.

·        Understand, interpret and support activities required with respect to standards and regulatory requirements impacting products and processes.

·        Understands operations, business system, order fulfillment process and performs all relevant quality functions.

·        Responsible for adjusting practices within the Quality organization to ensure effective supplier quality control methods are in place.

·        Establish effective data collection and monitoring to provide appropriate knowledge of suppliers and their impact on Groveland’s operations.

·        Develop plans to reduce incoming inspections without impacting on product quality.

·        Attend daily SQDIP meetings to report on any incoming quality complaints.

·        Provide quality technology leadership in the implementation and/or maintenance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, other quality/industry standards and Total Quality Management principles.

·        Use Quality planning tools and techniques to define critical parameters of in-coming parts.

·        Lead supplier corrective actions (8Ds) and communicate status internally.

·        Participate in supplier audits and supplier selections.

·        Develop and implement a company quality standard and metrics to measure progress.

·        Be responsible for Operations Quality measurements and improvement process.

·        Prepare documents, records and reports as appropriate.

·        Follow up on all communications internally and externally essential to Quality operations.

·        Secure data in a manner such as to ensure that the company’s interests are at all time protected.

·        Maintains a safe work environment, ensures safety procedures are followed, and provides for proper housekeeping in the area.

·        Leads, coaches, and develops a team to achieve departmental and organizational objectives by providing clear direction, expectations, and updates on priorities and progress.

·        Provides timely ongoing performance feedback, conducts performance reviews, and supports employee development planning.

·        Fosters an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing team environment while embracing Chesterton’s core values.

·        Ensures team adherence to company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

·        Initiates and partners with HR to review and update direct reports’ job descriptions, ensuring clarity in roles, expectations, and leveling.

·        Effectively conducts sensitive employee discussions, including compensation-related conversations and disciplinary actions, with sound judgment and professionalism.

·        Communicates & collaborates effectively across functions, levels and teams within the organization while supporting and driving departmental initiatives.

·        Work is highly independent, with minimum instruction or supervision.

·        Handles moderate to complex issues.

·        Makes decision based upon sound judgment and data.

·        Contacts are with all levels of personnel including executive and senior management, across organizations, internal and external customers & suppliers in various organizations.

·        Interacts with multiple groups within the business. Works closely with Management to make decisions that impact the product quality. May make recommendations to Management on a regular basis. Interacts with suppliers and often represents the Company on quality issues.

·        Thorough knowledge/understanding of manufacturing environment, quality control, and production processes. Basic understanding of business concepts and budgets. Customer focused and results oriented.

·        Strong demonstrated use of quality planning tools, statistical techniques and Lean principles.

·        Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

·        Negotiation, arbitration, presentation, audit and contract skills with internal and external customers & Suppliers, verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization together with computer literacy skills

·        Ability to direct the work of others, exempt and non-exempt

·        Ability to supervise others and objectively and effectively manage employee performance.

·        Excellent PC application skills, i.e. MS Word, Excel and statistical software’

 

Education and/or Experience:

·        BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering or a related field.

·        6 -8 years related experience

·        Business and operations experience are required.

·        Highly self directed and self motivated.

·        Ability to learn new skills as required.

·        Must work well in a collaborative team environment and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

·        Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a proactive, positive and constructive manner.

Targeted pay range: $130,000 - $140,000/annually depending on experience

 

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ($130,000 - $140,000/yr DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Several roles at Chesterton are considered “leveled” positions and as such, the company reserves the right to advertise and or hire for this position at appropriate level depending on applicant’s skillset/experience. If the salary range to be offered for a “leveled” based position (I, II, III, etc.) is different than what was advertised on any posting, that range will be discussed with the candidate before they are formally invited to interview.

 

Hired applicants may be eligible for additional incentive compensation depending on the level and or function of the position which will be discussed with the candidate prior to formal interview. Payments under these programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
