Augmented Right of Way Operator

Department: Transmission

Compensation: $29.16 - $31.88 / hour



Description

Perform all types of work involved in the maintenance of rights of ways.  Assist with work involved in the construction, maintenance, rebuild, removal, operation, testing and inspection of energized or de-energized generation, transmission, and distribution facilities.

Expected to align personal goals with the Mission, Vision, and Values of OVEC/IKEC.




Key Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, and specialized forestry mulchers.

Operate company vehicles, cranes, aerial lifts and specialized equipment.  Perform duties incidental to the operation of such equipment.  

Use hand and power tools; operate portable generators, blowers and pumps; inspect and store personal protective equipment.  

Clear trees, limbs, and dense brush to prevent interference with high-voltage lines using chainsaws or hand tools for areas inaccessible to large machines.

Performing daily equipment safety inspections, greasing parts, and basic field maintenance.

Assist in station work such as installing conduit, pipe, cable and wire; use hand lines to pass tools and materials; dig and backfill trenches; remove and spread stone; uncrate equipment and material; install and remove station fences, barriers and safety signs; paint structures and equipment.

Assist in the maintenance and repair work of transmission lines, transmission and station structures and station equipment.  

Assist in various tests involving oil samples, connecting and operating portable and stationary oil handling equipment. 

Assist employees of equal or higher classification. 

Become familiar with the Company’s safety rules and practices and in the application of resuscitation and first aid.

Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal and state safety laws and regulations, and all applicable company safety rules and operating procedures; when supervising others, assure that safe work practices are followed and conduct safety meetings; make suggestions for the improvement of the safety program and encourage others to do so.

Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.

Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined above.

Responsible for knowing and complying with the laws and Code of Business Conduct related to the performance of the aforementioned duties.



Minimum Qualifications

Must possess the general knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or the responsibilities listed above.

Through a combination of education and/or experience must have sufficient knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities listed above as well as the ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of higher classification in the line of promotion.

Ability to deal with other employees in a courteous and professional manner.

Ability to plan work and to properly instruct and brief others.

Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license.  Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.  

Familiarity with the Company safety rules and practices and proficiency in the application of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and first aid.

Willingness to travel to complete work assignments.

This is a contract position, and the successful candidate will not be eligible for full-time benefits equivalent to that of a regular employee.  However, as an augmented employee, the successful candidate will be eligible for:
