As an Emerging Technology Solution Architect within Hitachi Energy’s Innovation-as-a-Service function, you will perform architectural analysis and assess high-level solution designs for emerging technologies and innovative market solutions. You will evaluate how innovative technologies fit into the company’s architecture, how they can be integrated and scaled, and what their adoption would mean in a complex enterprise environment. You will work with internal stakeholders to ensure an appropriate fit and reuse of current assets, and with external vendors to understand their solutions in the context of architectural assessment. Your work will be proactive and reactive, depending on the innovation services provided. This role requires an understanding of emerging technologies and technology trends and the ability to stay up to date, particularly in artificial intelligence and other emerging technology areas. You will combine this knowledge with an understanding of business challenges and the outcomes that new technologies might bring.
You will translate innovation ideas into concrete architectural assessments, solution design sketches, and integration options. Your work will provide technically grounded inputs for clear, actionable recommendations, ensuring that proposed solution paths are realistic and aligned with Hitachi Energy’s target architecture.
This role connects emerging technologies and innovative solutions with other architecture and technology departments within Hitachi Energy. Alongside this work, you will collaborate with architecture, technology validation, and prototyping specialists and document architectural insights from completed assessments, contributing to reusable patterns and shared knowledge repositories.
The focus is on internal enterprise innovation, not customer-facing products.
How you’ll make an impact
- Assess the architectural fit, integration feasibility, and enterprise design implications of emerging technologies and market solutions for innovation topics accepted for assessment. Translate your findings into concise architecture compatibility assessments that support clear technology recommendations.
- Develop high-level solution design sketches and integration approach options, ensuring proposed solution paths are realistic and enterprise-grade. Provide these as architectural inputs to innovation recommendation packages.
- Coordinate with Hitachi Energy architects to ensure assessments and proposed solution approaches align with Hitachi Energy’s target architecture standards and approved reference patterns.
- Investigate the platform and application landscape to avoid duplication and ensure an appropriate fit with existing and onboarded solutions including build-vs-buy-vs-reuse considerations and high-level cost implications.
- Outline architecture options where a proof of concept or further investigation is recommended. Define the architectural guardrails and constraints for proposed proofs of concept.
- Identify potential security, data, or compliance considerations early and involve the relevant expert teams where needed.
- Engage with external vendors and startups to understand their solutions and evaluate them against architectural, integration, and scalability criteria.
- Participate in preparing recommendation packages, contributing architecture-specific findings, risks, and constraints relevant to next-step decisions.
- Document architectural insights and solution design lessons from completed innovation assessments. Contribute to architecture knowledge repositories and reusable pattern libraries where applicable.
Your background
- At least five years of professional experience in solution architecture, enterprise architecture, AI/ML platform design, or cloud architecture in a complex enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated experience assessing emerging technologies from an architectural perspective, with the ability to develop high-level solution design sketches and integration approach options.
- Experience working with ambiguous, early-stage innovation topics and translating them into concrete architectural inputs and recommendations.
- Experience collaborating across innovation, architecture, and delivery stakeholder communities, supported by strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Familiarity with AI/ML architecture patterns, large language model integration, cloud-native design, and enterprise integration standards. Understanding of target architecture concepts and architectural guardrails.
- Strong strategic conceptual thinking skills and Strong ability to prepare architectural outputs that are clear and understandable to other teams.
- A degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field is preferred. Fluent English
