Do you want to help us build the DNA of tech? Vishay’s Specialty Thin Film Division is seeking an Account Development Engineer to support a plant producing custom thin film microelectronic components. Our products serve demanding applications in defense, space, medical, industrial, and optical communications markets. In this plant-based role, you will combine applications support, technical estimating, and customer collaboration to turn opportunities into well-defined, manufacturable orders. You will own quotations for assigned opportunities and work closely with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Quality, and Operations to develop practical solutions that meet customer needs and support profitable growth.
This is an opportunity to work directly with customer engineers and manufacturing specialists, build expertise in precision thin film processes, and see your work progress from an initial drawing to a finished product.
What you will be doing:
· Work with customers and Sales to understand application needs, drawings, specifications, quantities, and delivery expectations; resolve missing or unclear information before quoting.
· Review requests for quotation for technical feasibility and manufacturability, including materials, substrates, metallization, tolerances, inspection, testing, and documentation requirements.
· Collaborate with plant specialists to recommend suitable processes and design alternatives, identify development needs, and clarify technical, quality, and capacity risks.
· Prepare accurate cost estimates covering materials, process routing, labor, yield, outside services, tooling, and nonrecurring engineering. Develop quotations consistent with pricing guidelines and obtain required approvals.
· Coordinate quotation priorities and response dates, communicate assumptions and lead times clearly, and maintain complete records in the plant’s quotation and business systems.
· Partner with Sales and Product Management on quote follow-up, technical discussions, revisions, and opportunities to expand business with existing and new customers.
· Confirm alignment between purchase orders and accepted quotations; coordinate a clear handoff of drawings, specifications, and special requirements to planning and manufacturing.
· Compare estimates with manufacturing results and customer feedback to improve quotation accuracy, response time, and future business decisions.
What you will bring along:
· A bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, physics, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant technical education and manufacturing experience.
· Experience in technical estimating, applications engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or technical sales support.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications and work with manufacturing teams to assess how a custom component can be produced.
· Analytical skills and confidence working with costs, quantities, yields, and spreadsheets; careful attention to quotation assumptions and details.
· Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to discuss technical requirements and commercial tradeoffs with customer engineers and purchasing contacts.
· Strong organization and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple requests, meet commitments, and work constructively across departments.
- undefined
Preferred Experience:
· Custom, high-mix manufacturing of microelectronic components, precision components, or related products.
· Thin film fabrication or related processes such as photolithography, deposition, plating, ceramic substrate processing, laser processing, or precision inspection.
· ERP, CRM, or quotation systems and familiarity with estimating models, manufacturing routings, and gross margin analysis.
· Supporting customers with demanding quality, traceability, or documentation requirements.
Candidates with strong technical estimating and customer support skills from related manufacturing environments are encouraged to apply. Direct thin film experience is preferred, and the ability to learn the plant’s products and processes is essential.
