Purpose of Position:

The program coordinator will provide comprehensive support for co-curricular programming within Volunteerism and Service-Learning and Student Life. This role requires a proactive, collaborative, and student-centered approach, with a commitment to fostering community engagement and ensuring service accessibility for the entire University community.

Essential Functions:

  • Recruit, train, advise, and develop undergraduate student leaders participating in the Community Engagement Collective and Alternative Breaks, providing guidance and support that fosters leadership development and meaningful community engagement.
  • Provide programmatic leadership for the Community Engagement Collective and Alternative Breaks, including strategic planning, partnership development, financial management, risk management, and program evaluation to support sustainable, high-quality programming.
  • Coordinate and oversee Alternative Breaks logistics, including trip planning, staff recruitment and training, student preparation, and implementation, ensuring programs meet educational objectives and university risk management standards.
  • Serve as primary instructor for two academic courses associated with Alternative Breaks and develop and facilitate leadership curricula for annual cohorts of student leaders, matching advising approaches with student developmental needs and VSL goals.
  • Supervise and mentor student staff supporting VSL co-curricular programs, creating a supportive learning environment that promotes professional growth, leadership skills, and effective program facilitation.
  • Support fundraising and donor engagement for VSL programs by identifying funding opportunities, assisting with program-specific fundraising efforts, and engaging students in development activities, while contributing to broader Student Life development initiatives as needed.
  • Contribute to VSL and Student Life initiatives through committees, special projects, alumni engagement, and development activities, including outreach campaigns and opportunities that strengthen relationships with past program participants and advance student engagement.

 

 

 

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree.

Experience in higher education or a related field.

Demonstrated ability to multitask, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work well as a

team member.

Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail and follow instructions without close supervision.

Goal-driven, self-directed and creative with excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal and written skills.

Professional demeanor.

Regular and punctual attendance.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

 

Preferred qualifications

Master's degree.

Three years of relevant work experience in higher education or a related field.

Experience planning, coordinating, and executing events or college student programming.

Experience in volunteer coordination.

Experience in community-based work, whether at a university, corporation, or nonprofit.

Conversational fluency in Spanish.

Familiarity with social media and web applications for outreach, productivity and project management.


Salary Range

$58,500
