Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract, at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold AFB, TN. This electrical engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for maintaining and sustaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer who wants to work in a multi-disciplinary team that plays a key role in supporting national defense through ground testing of air and space systems. This work involves application of engineering principles for design of a wide variety of electrical systems including underground/overhead distribution, installation of transformers and switchgear, substations, unit subs, MCCs, plant & building power, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, security systems, communication networks, grounding systems, and lightning protection systems.  This includes direct/in-house design for outside contractor installation as well as initiation and support of design/build subcontracts for performance of project scope. 

 

Electrical engineers work closely with other engineers both in design and in the field in development of electrical and design requirements and ensuring proposed designs meet those requirements. 

 

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, design engineers interface with other teams across the complex including controls, instrumentation, test ops engineer, system engineers, facility data analysis, and modeling and simulation engineers to ensure reliable operation and ability to meet future test needs.

 

Job Duties:

Under the guidance and direction of a more senior engineer:

  • Provide electrical design and coordination for electrical system and mechanical equipment renovations and upgrades, including single lines conduit and cable tray routing and electrical equipment layouts
  • Calculates electrical loads for mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Produces electrical drawings including equipment layouts, single lines, conduit/cable tray routing, and wiring and schematic diagrams with the assistance of a CADD operator
  • Prepare specifications, estimates, and scope of work documents
  • Presents and/or supports reviews of in-house design at different milestones in the project
  • Participates in design reviews for documents produced by design/build subcontractors. Provides comments and identifies discrepancies between subcontractor’s design and project requirements.
  • Designs electrical equipment interface and installation details for review by senior personnel
  • Prepares electrical designs and construction drawings using 2-D / 3-D computer aided design (CAD), presentation graphics and electrical models
  • May provide technical direction as appropriate to drafters, technicians and others who assist in specific assignments
  • Coordinates work & collaborates with other engineering disciplines during planning, design, and execution phases of projects
  • Contacts supplier representatives, project field personnel and engineering discipline groups when directed, to either gather or provide information
  • Supports development of studies, such as fault current, voltage drop, and reliability analysis
  • Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
  • Perform other related duties as required

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance and maintain authorized user access to the AEDC local area network.
  • S. Citizenship is required due to federal government contract compliance requirements and the necessity to access secure federal databases and networks on Arnold Air Force Base

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity of major industry or regulatory standards (such as the National Electrical Code and IEEE standards) and design criteria pertinent to the electrical engineering discipline
  • Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems
  • Educational concentration and/or work experience in low, medium, or high voltage power distribution
  • Experience (internship, co-op, or full time) in design operations, maintenance, and/or sustainment of electrical power components and system; transformers, motors, motor control centers, switch gear, circuit breakers, and protective devices for 13.8KVA and below
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic working environment with flexibility to meet mission demands
  • Strong organizational skills to track and facilitate progress on projects
  • Demonstrated proactiveness and initiate to drive to results
  • Exhibits strong level of technical curiosity and desire to seek understanding
  • Strong communication skills (including verbal and written)
  • Experience writing Scope of Work or specification documents
  • Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount BNH is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time jobs will be adjusted based upon the number of hours agreed to work at location Tennessee: Arnold Air Force, TN. 

 

L06: $73,000 - $97,000; L07: $82,000 - $109,500 / year at Arnold Air Force Base, TN.
