Component Design Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Component Design Engineer to join the Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) team in Derby.
Component Design Engineers are responsible for carrying out Product Design activities across new and existing products across the RR Electrical product base, ensuring that the technical and safety integrity of a design is maintained in accordance with company procedures.
As a Component Design Engineer your main task will be to produce and (where adequate capability has been demonstrated) check component models and technical drawings in line with company practices to meet design intent, satisfying fit, form and function of the component whilst optimising manufacture. Managing and maintaining data integrity is vital to this role so attention to detail is an important quality.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prepare, develop and maintain the master model, technical drawing and relevant documentation in accordance with company procedures, engineering drawing standards, design intent (fit, form, function), manufacturing & build capability, project costs, timescales and quality requirements.
- Work as part of a multi-discipline team to ensure new and revised component definitions are fit for purpose (meets design intent, manufacturable etc.)
- The creation of specialised bespoke models for analysis purposes.
- The management, update and incorporation of Drawing Alteration Requests.
- To produce tolerance stack-ups to aid new product creation & validation and to support in-service investigation work.
- To actively promote, encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement (of tools, processes, methods and guidance material).
Who we are looking for:
- Qualified to degree level in a STEM subject and with experience in a relevant engineering environment: Electrical (preferred), Mechanical, Aeronautical or Controls.
- Have appropriate engineering experience in conceptual and detail design and detail drafting techniques.
- Experienced in using Siemens NX and Team enter, RR drawing, ISO/British Standards and/or other relevant drawing standards.
- Ability to plan and deliver to challenging deadlines; to work accurately and at pace.
- Self-motivation and an ability to drive for results.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to allow you to contribute effectively in a team environment.
- The ability to quickly understand and drive novel engineering solutions - electrical engineering experience is not essential for this role.
