About the Project/Venue

Located in downtown Mesa, Arizona, Mesa Convention Center is the largest event venue in the East Valley. The venue features nearly 40,000 square feet of flexible meeting and exhibit space, 26 breakout rooms, 40,000 square feet of outdoor function space, and an outdoor amphitheater with capacity for up to 5,000 guests. From conferences and trade shows to community gatherings, festivals, and live entertainment, Mesa Convention Center provides a versatile setting for memorable events and experiences.

About the Role

The Operations & Event Conversion Manager is responsible for supporting and overseeing the day-to-day execution of facility operations, event services, and event conversions throughout the Mesa Convention Center and Amphitheater. This role ensures operational readiness, efficient event execution, successful room and venue transformations, and exceptional guest and client experience. Working closely with the Director of Operations, the Operations & Event Conversion Manager coordinates facility operations, event logistics, conversion activities, staffing, safety compliance, and cross-functional teams to support conventions, trade shows, concerts, festivals, community events, and outdoor programming.

WHAT YOU’LL DO (KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & OUTCOMES)

Facility & Event Operations

• Assist the Director of Operations in overseeing venue operations, including Engineering, Building & Grounds, Technical Services, Event Services, Public Safety, Security, Custodial, and Parking.
• Coordinate operational activities with internal departments, clients, promoters, contractors, and third-party vendors to ensure seamless event execution.
• Ensure operational readiness of all event spaces, meeting rooms, exhibit halls, outdoor spaces, and amphitheater facilities.
• Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) during events, providing leadership, decision-making support, and problem resolution.
• Anticipate operational challenges and implement solutions that minimize disruption to event activities.
• Support communication and coordination across departments to ensure successful execution of event requirements and operational plans.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, life safety standards, ADA requirements, and facility policies and procedures.

Event Conversions & Setup Operations

• Oversee and participate in all event setups, room turnovers, changeovers, and venue conversions based on event specifications and operational requirements.
• Ensure equipment, materials, and resources are available and properly deployed to support efficient event setup and breakdown activities.
• Coordinate the movement, storage, loading, and unloading of event equipment, furnishings, staging elements, and client materials.
• Interpret event layouts, CAD drawings, diagrams, and setup instructions to ensure accurate execution.
• Oversee installation and removal of seating configurations, staging, risers, platforms, scaffolding, and other event infrastructure.
• Operate and supervise the safe use of forklifts, pallet jacks, riding scrubbers, and other facility equipment as needed.
• Ensure setup areas and storage locations are organized, clean, and prepared for upcoming event requirements.

WHAT YOU BRING (QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE)

 Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Facility Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Event Management, or a related field preferred.
• 3-5+ years of experience in venue operations, event services, event conversions, facility management, convention centers, arenas, amphitheaters, stadiums, or similar environments.
• 1-3+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
• Experience supporting large-scale events, conventions, concerts, festivals, and multi-day programming.
• Experience operating events and facility equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, staging systems, and related tools preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

• Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise, coach, and develop staff.
• Strong customer service orientation and problem-solving capabilities.
• Working knowledge of facility operations, event conversions, safety procedures, and OSHA regulations.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and facility management systems preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, stand, and walk for extended periods as required.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts based on event needs.

• You may be required to work a non traditional schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
