The Nurse Manager provides day-to-day leadership for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unit and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. This role partners closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to achieve exceptional patient outcomes while overseeing staffing, patient flow, and operational efficiency. The Nurse Manager monitors key quality and operational metrics, leads performance improvement initiatives, and fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous excellence in support of children and families facing complex hematologic, oncologic, and bone marrow transplant care.


A caregiver in this position works days + call, from 7:00am—4:30pm.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Manage practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care on assigned unit. 

  • Establish clinical direction for nursing care delivery, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes. 

  • Collaborate with liaison departments in maintaining patient care standards, identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit. 

  • Develop quality initiatives and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit. 

  • Develop and maintain unit-related patient care standards through continuous quality improvement. 

  • Maintain JCAHO and other regulatory standards. 

  • Manage operation of unit. 

  • Analyze personnel structure and determine staffing needs and mix. 

  • Provide direction and supervision, evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination processes, and develop strategic plans. 

  • Actively promote staff and self-development. 

  • Participate in clinical nursing research and supports foundation research activities. 

  • Direct unit participation in evaluation of new products. 

  • Approve purchases and establish or revise inventory quotes. 

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the budget. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross 

  • If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment 

  • 3 years of recent clinical nursing experience, including at least 1 year of healthcare management experience 

  • High degree of clinical expertise in the specialty area 

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, communication, counseling, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution and group process skills 


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Hematology/Oncology and/or chemotherapy experience preferred.

  • Experience working with highly acute patient populations.

  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN)


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye and hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, sitting, standing and walking.
  • Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
