About You
RMIT Activator is the centre of innovation and entrepreneurship at RMIT, bringing together design, technology, and enterprise to support startups and create lasting impact. This role is ideal for a proactive all-rounder who is passionate about startups and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You’ll help deliver Activator’s startup and community programs, creating engaging experiences that connect and support founders while working alongside students, staff, industry leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs.
You’ll coordinate the operational delivery of Activator’s Residency program and community initiatives, including events, workshops, networking opportunities, and the Entrepreneurs-in-Residence program. You’ll also manage communications, program administration, and databases to ensure a high-quality experience for founders, mentors, and stakeholders. The role is also responsible for the day-to-day operation of Activator’s co-working and event spaces, including bookings, access, facilities coordination, supplier management, invoicing, and administrative processes that support the smooth running of Activator’s programs and spaces.
To be successful in this position, you will have as a minimum:
Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, or information technology management.
Minimum 3 years of experience specifically focused on project or program management, event management designing and managing processes in a manner easily understood by a broad range of stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in event management, program coordination, or community engagement— ideally within a startup, innovation, or entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Proven ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail.
Understanding of startup culture and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new systems, tools, and processes to support operational excellence.
Experience with CRM or data management systems (preferred but not essential), and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Familiarity with platforms such as Airtable, Slack, Power Bi, Eventbrite, Zoom, and social media channels to manage communication and engagement.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders including founders, students, staff, and industry partners.
Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and community experiences.
Desirable:
Familiarity with the RMIT environment, or experience working within a large, complex organization.
