Under general supervision, is responsible for developing and deploying the Economic and Community Development Department community engagement strategy – considering communications relevant to the community – and delivering those communications through local press and media; may support other functional components of the division.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and deploys the Economic and Community Development Department’s community engagement strategy, including creating and following a weekly, monthly, and annual schedule of releases based on the goals of the Department and divisions
Drafts press kits and releases, develops internal and external presentations, and manages social media presence including blogs and departmental social media accounts in coordination with information technology; performs professional and administrative duties in a staff capacity
Engages community to inform constituents of department programs and initiatives that present opportunities to advance the Economic and Community Development plan
Designs, creates and maintains department metrics dashboard with Economic and Community Development program outcomes
Prepares presentations and other materials and distributes in accordance with policy
Maintains Economic and Community Development website in partnership with BCIT
Provides support to department by designing logos, graphics, mailers, give away items to market and communicate public serving and internal programs
Assists other teams in developing engagement messaging and metrics to advance the overall effectiveness of Department programs
Researches and stays up-to-date on local media, press contacts, and web engagement tools.
Conducts research and field visits to obtain information on operations, budget and policy issues
Participates in public information workshops, hearings, and community service program issues
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, English, or a closely related field; and three (3) years' experience in communications, public relations, marketing, and/or digital strategy including maintaining social media and blogging accounts; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent verbal and written communications skills required in both English and Spanish
Skill in developing engaging communications plans and documents; skill in using social media and other digital tools; developing and maintaining contacts with members of the media; skill in preparing reports; skill in organizing and compiling information; skill in utilizing Windows-based word-processing and spreadsheet software
Ability to operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment; use web and social media communications and tracking tools; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees, Elected/Appointed Officials, other government agencies, outside organizations, and the general public
Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
May be required to be on call 24 hours
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
May be required to work weekends
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Working conditions are primarily indoors;
Occasionally moves items weighing up to 5-15 pounds
Occasionally moves about the office
Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
Positions self to perform essential functions
