Senior Platform Enablement EngineerJob Description
So, who are we?
IG Group is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses.
The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next.
Join us at IG – the future gets built here.
Your team
Platform Enablement helps engineering teams adopt cloud platform capabilities confidently and independently. We're an advisory and acceleration function — we provide guidance, patterns, and reusable tooling, not approvals, and not ongoing operational support. Success is measured by what teams can do without us, not by how many tickets we close.
Your role in the Team’s Success
We're looking for a senior engineer who can lead enablement engagements end-to-end — from initial architectural advice through to a team operating fully independently. You'll work directly with engineering teams at varying levels of platform maturity, translate patterns and anti-patterns into practical guidance, and hold the line on engineering standards across the organisation.
This is a hands-on technical role with real influence: you'll shape how teams build, not just what they build.
What you’ll do
Provide architectural design advice and guidance rooted in established patterns, anti-patterns, and organisational standards.
Lead time-boxed enablement engagements with clear scope, milestones, and a defined handover.
Contribute to and evolve a library of reusable Infrastructure-as-Code modules, CI/CD pipeline templates, and golden paths.
Define and promote engineering standards that ensure consistency, quality, and security across teams.
Provide short, structured hyper care support after handover to ensure a clean transition to independence.
Coach and mentor engineers during engagements — teach the underlying pattern, not just the fix.
Maintain living documentation (runbooks, onboarding guides, decision logs) as the team's single source of truth.
Analyse engagement patterns and support data to proactively identify recurring problems and platform gaps.
Represent the engineering community's feedback back to platform teams, distinguishing "team needs training" from "platform needs fixing."
What you’ll need for this role
8–12 years in infrastructure, platform, or DevOps engineering roles, with demonstrated architectural or technical leadership.
Hands-on, working knowledge across most of the following, with genuine willingness to pick up any gaps quickly:
Cloud infrastructure: AWS
CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or equivalent)
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent) — applied to both cloud and on-prem targets
Observability tooling (e.g. Open Telemetry, Honeycomb, CloudWatch)
ITSM/workflow tooling (e.g. ServiceNow, Jira) for engagement and request tracking
Strong communication skills — able to explain trade-offs to engineers and summarise outcomes for leadership.
Experience coaching or mentoring other engineers, and comfort operating as an advisor rather than a builder.
A documentation-first habit — you write things down as you go, not after the fact.
Nice to have:
Experience with API gateway technologies (e.g. Kong)
Familiarity with Internal Developer Portal
On-prem infrastructure: VM provisioning and lifecycle management, workload orchestration (e.g. Nomad), secrets management (e.g. Vault), artifact management (e.g. Artifactory).
