About This Position

 

The City of Austin's Emergency Medical Services Department provides 9-1-1 emergency medical response to the citizens of Austin and Travis County serving a population of over 2.2M citizens in a service region of over 1,039 square miles. While most of the assistance we give to the community is medical in nature, the smallest part of what we do involves truly time-critical life-threatening emergencies. Yet everything we do is about service: service to our patients, their families and loved ones; service to our community; and service to the people who make up Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.

Austin- Travis County EMS is seeking a Recruitment Coordinator to support the hiring of future public servant EMS professionals. The ideal candidate is people-focused, service-oriented, dependable, coachable, eager to learn and thrives in a collaborative team environment. This position offers the end-to-end recruitment experience of application processing, coordinating and hosting interviews, maintaining the applicant tracking system, participating in recruitment and community events and other recruitment initiatives to attract top talent EMT professionals.


 

Job Description:

Purpose:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for recruiting personnel who meet the value and competency criteria consistent with City of Austin departments.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

 Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Identifies individuals who meet the optimal criteria for employment and attracts/recruits them for employment.

  • Develops long-term communication plans and recruitment strategies to achieve optimal staffing levels.

  • Establishes working relationships with department education programs, placement agencies, colleges, technical schools and other entities with the objective of increasing access to qualified applicants. 

  • May serve as department representative at recruitment events, job fairs, etc.

  • Writes advertisements for newspapers, professional journals, internet websites, and other media. Provide regular releases on various social media sites in order to promote recruiting efforts.

  • Update, revise, and manage the recruiting units’ internet presence.

  • Develop long-term marketing plans, and conduct market research to establish where needs are.

  • Develop promotional/advertising media in various formats to include videos, pamphlets, fliers, and posters.

  • Coordinates hiring processes and testing/evaluation sessions, and sets up and coordinates employment interviews.

  • May recommend qualified applicants to recruiting and/or executive staff.

  • Keeps informed of developments in such areas as wages and salaries, employee benefits, City of Austin personnel practices and departmental needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of current concepts, techniques, trends in recruiting and hiring, assessment of competencies, values, and personality characteristics.

  • Knowledge of the values and basic competencies that are indicative of qualified applicants.  Knowledge of equal employment opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Knowledge of marketing, advertising, social media, and other technology platforms

  • Skill in communication and networking  

  • Skill in utilizing conventional computer software applications to include word processing, database, spread sheets, E-mail, presentations, as well as general skill in operating a computer.

  • Skill in assessing and identifying target areas/markets for recruiting.

  • Skill in writing advertisements, job descriptions, etc.

  • Skill as an interviewer.

  • Skill in written and oral communication

  • Skill in planning, organizing, and prioritizing multiple projects

  • Skill in data analysis and problem-solving

  • Ability to assess individuals who possess the values and competencies critical to quality performance.

  • Ability to present the City of Austin to prospective applicants in a positive, realistic, and attractive manner.

  • Ability to conduct testing sessions.

  • Ability to plan and organize hiring process activities.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in human resources, administration or other area pertinent to recruiting and hiring skills and two (2) years of experience in a hiring/recruiting capacity.

    • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using an Applicant Tracking System.

  • Experience with innovative recruiting to create a diverse and inclusive workforce.

  • Experience with civil service hiring processes or public sector recruitment.

  • Experience with confidently conducting cold-call outreach to prospective candidates, with a commitment to timely and consistent follow-up throughout the recruitment and hiring process.

  • Ability to travel within the state and occasionally out of state, including overnight travel, as required to attend conferences, career fairs, and community events.

Salary Range:

$57,970.00- 70,720.00

Hours:
Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM

Schedule may vary based on business need with option for hybrid telework schedule after successfully completing the established training period.

Occasional evenings/weekends are required.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a valid Texas Class C Drivers License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
