Description
Nearshore Cyber is seeking 2 or 3 research consultants for a US due diligence client. The work is verifying Venezuelan companies: who owns them, whether they are what they claim to be, and what conditions on the ground mean for a transaction. This is paid, per-task contract work, not a full-time role. It requires 1–2 weeks on site in Caracas, with remote preparation and reporting before and after.
What you will do
- Retrieve and verify corporate registry and notarial filings, including in person when records are not available online
- Confirm that registered addresses exist, appear occupied, and show signs of the stated business
- Verify named directors and officers through lawful, publicly available, or professionally accessible sources
- Monitor local and regional Spanish-language media for adverse coverage
- Document ground conditions relevant to a transaction: banking and payment functionality, the security environment as observed, and whether specific government offices are actually processing filings
- Report findings in writing with dates, named sources or methods, photographs where appropriate, and a short narrative we can hand to the client
What we need
- A background in compliance, GRC, audit, corporate research, investigative journalism, or similar work
- Deep familiarity with Venezuela: how its registries, agencies, and paperwork actually operate, not just how they are supposed to
- Native or professional Spanish, including regional terminology; working English for reporting
- The ability and willingness to spend 1–2 weeks in Caracas
- Documentation discipline and discretion. Inquiries are conducted professionally and must not alert the subject.
- Sector experience in mining, oil and gas, ports and logistics, or financial services is a plus
Ground rules
The work is strictly informational and observational. It does not involve security services, protective operations, or any law-enforcement role, and it is conducted in compliance with local law and applicable sanctions requirements. Candidates are screened before engagement. A consultant may decline any task they believe presents a personal-safety or legal risk.
Engagement and pay
Discrete, defined taskings tied to a specific client matter. Scope, deliverable, and compensation are agreed upon in writing before work begins. $75 to $100 USD per hour depending on experience.
