What is a Consumer Outreach Representative?
A Consumer Outreach Representative is a member of the Public Relations team that works closely with members of the Customer Services department to educate customers about Central Hudson’s programs. The Consumer Outreach Representative has a dual role: (1) responding professionally to customer complaints filed with the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) and other government agencies, in order to satisfy those customers’ needs, and (2)
proactively communicating with community organizations and customers about programs Central Hudson offers to customers who are vulnerable and have low-to-moderate incomes throughout the service territory.
What does a Consumer Outreach Representative do?
Provides a high level of customer service by conducting outreach and education programs targeting all customers, as well as programs that specifically target consumers with special needs, such as customers with low-income and those who are elderly
Responds to New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) calls and customer complaints as assigned
Establishes and maintains relationships with non-profit organizations and government agencies by representing the Company at in-person and virtual events
Coordinates all aspects of Central Hudson’s outreach events, including creating in-person and virtual workshops and meetings
Develops a working understanding of the consumer Home Energy Fair Practices Act (HEFPA) rights and protections and helps Central Hudson ensure that consumers’ rights are not compromised
Becomes familiar with the services and benefits provided by local, state, and federal governmental and non-profit agencies and serves as a liaison between Central Hudson and these agencies
Represents the Company and provides trainings to selected audiences to help them better understand and support Company programs and services
Develops outreach materials and completes other duties as assigned
Provides support during storm restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Consumer Outreach Representative?
Required:
Associates degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or related field. In lieu of an associates degree, a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of related work experience in consumer/community outreach, customer service/engagement, public relations or a related field.
Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with both internal and external stakeholders; strong public speaking and presentation skills
Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Ability to multitask, change priorities, and use good judgment
Must be willing to travel throughout Central Hudson’s service territory to attend outreach events and occasionally work non-traditional hours
Must promote a positive work ethic and customer service approach
Valid driver's license
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Understanding of the consumer Home Energy Fair Practices Act (HEFPA)
Experience with event planning
Knowledge of non-profit community in the service territory

Pay range: $73,000-$115,500
