Description
We are seeking a Scientist to join our Antigen Science team, where you will own the production and characterization of membrane protein antigens that support therapeutic discovery programs. You will design and run the experiments, make sound technical decisions, and deliver well-characterized reagents on program timelines. The team works on challenging membrane targets, including GPCRs and other multi-pass proteins, and you will bring independent scientific judgment to difficult expression, purification, and reconstitution problems.
Responsibilities
- Independently design, execute, and troubleshoot expression and purification workflows for membrane protein constructs.
- Engineer and optimize membrane protein antigen constructs to improve expression, and stability, selecting formats appropriate to the downstream application.
- Develop and refine detergent, lipid, and buffer conditions to maintain membrane protein integrity through purification and storage.
- Prepare and characterize alternative antigen formats, including nanodiscs, liposomes, and other detergent-free systems.
- Establish and execute quality control for each antigen batch, including purity, identity, homogeneity, and conformational integrity.
- Partner with antibody discovery, engineering, and assay development colleagues to understand their reagent needs and deliver accordingly.
- Present results to the team and cross-functional partners, and contribute to technical reports, publications, and patent applications.
Qualifications
- PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with 0-3 years of industry or postdoctoral experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, from experimental design through analysis and reporting.
- Experience with mammalian or insect cell expression systems.
- Hands-on experience in membrane protein purification (e.g. GPCRs, ion channels, transporters).
- Familiarity with reconstitution approaches such as nanodiscs, liposomes, or detergent-free systems.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach to cross-functional work.
- Experience with mass photometry, SEC-MALS, BLI, SPR, or circular dichroism.
- Experience with antibody discovery or immunization workflows.
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Compensation and Benefits:
The expected base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $115,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s level qualifications, experience, and skills.
While most offers typically fall within the low to mid-point of the range, we may extend an offer toward the higher end for exceptional candidates whose background and expertise exceeds the requirements of the role.
