Software Engineer, Senior

As the Senior Software Engineer at Integrity, you will serve as a technical leader supporting the organization's software development strategy through modern engineering practices, software quality, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position provides advanced technical expertise in software design, application development, system integrations, architecture, troubleshooting, and AI-assisted development while contributing to the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions.

Partnering closely with AI Delivery, Quality Assurance, Software Architecture, Product Management, and business stakeholders, this position will help ensure software solutions meet business requirements, technical standards, security expectations, and delivery commitments. The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for leading complex development initiatives, establishing and reinforcing engineering best practices, mentoring software engineers, and driving operational efficiency through modern engineering and AI-enabled technologies while supporting the department's engineering strategy.

This position reports to the Software Engineering Manager.

Core Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

• Serve as a technical subject matter expert for assigned applications, systems, and technical domains.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to Associate Software Engineers, Software Engineers, and other team members through code reviews, technical discussions, knowledge sharing, and informal coaching.
• Perform thorough code reviews and promote adherence to engineering standards, development practices, testing expectations, and technical quality standards.
• Lead or significantly contribute to technical design discussions, solution architecture, implementation planning, and technical decision-making.
• Collaborate with Software Architects and engineering leadership on architectural direction, modernization efforts, technical standards, and long-term technology decisions.

Software Development & Engineering

• Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain complex software applications supporting customer-facing and internal business systems.
• Independently own complex development initiatives from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Develop scalable, secure, maintainable, and high-performing software using established engineering standards and best practices.
• Work across the full software stack, including front-end development, back-end development, databases, APIs, integrations, and related application components.
• Develop and maintain applications using technologies including Laravel/PHP, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Translate complex business and functional requirements into effective technical designs and implementation approaches.

Software Quality & Technical Excellence

• Partner with Quality Assurance to establish testing strategies and ensure software quality throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Design, develop, and promote automated testing approaches that improve application quality, reliability, and development efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex software defects, application issues, integration challenges, performance concerns, and production incidents.
• Lead technical investigations and root cause analysis efforts for significant application defects, reliability issues, and production incidents.
• Identify opportunities to improve application architecture, technical debt, performance, maintainability, security, and engineering processes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with AI Delivery, Quality Assurance, Software Architecture, Data, UI/UX, and business stakeholders to evaluate requirements and develop effective technical solutions.
• Evaluate technical approaches and tradeoffs related to scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, performance, and development effort.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, architectural concerns, and implementation challenges while recommending effective solutions.
• Participate in technical planning and help identify complexity, resource requirements, risks, and dependencies.
• Communicate technical recommendations, risks, progress, and improvement opportunities to engineering leadership and project stakeholders.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

• Use AI-assisted development tools to support coding, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, research, and solution design while ensuring appropriate review and validation of generated outputs.
• Help establish effective practices for the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools within engineering workflows.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, development standards, shared knowledge resources, and engineering knowledge bases.
• Propose and champion technologies, development practices, tools, and process improvements that improve engineering effectiveness and software quality.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, software development practices, security considerations, AI-assisted development capabilities, and industry trends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional software development experience.
• Advanced experience designing and developing modern web-based software applications.
• Advanced understanding of full-stack software development concepts, software architecture, design patterns, APIs, system integrations, and modern engineering practices.
• Advanced proficiency in PHP or a comparable object-oriented programming language.
• Significant experience with JavaScript, modern front-end frameworks, relational databases, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), source control, automated testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis practices.
• Experience designing and implementing scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives and providing technical guidance to other engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor less experienced engineers and influence technical decisions without direct supervisory authority.
• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools and technologies to improve engineering productivity and software delivery.
• Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, technical, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced experience with Laravel/PHP, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, complex system integrations, and business-critical software applications.
• Experience with Linux-based operating systems, containerization technologies, cloud platforms, and modern infrastructure practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment practices, automated testing strategies, and software quality initiatives.
• Experience with application performance optimization, scalability, reliability, technical debt reduction, modernization efforts, and long-term platform improvement.
• Experience with UI/UX principles, responsive application design, and collaborative Agile software development environments.
• Experience in logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, supply chain, or Transportation Management Systems (TMS).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.

This position operates primarily in a remote work environment. Occasional work outside of normal business hours may be required to support software releases, production issues, or other critical technology initiatives. Limited travel may also be necessary for meetings, training, and company-sponsored events.
