This vacancy is with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the Oahu Community Correctional Center in Kalihi.

  • This position requires travel to ALL 8 correctional facilities on Oahu (4) and the neighbor islands (4).

Salary: $10,135 to $23,842 per month (LHB2, Min to Max)

Serves as branch chief and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating a statewide direct clinical dental health service program. Such responsibility involves the formulation of policies and procedures for the provision of dental services through community-and institution-based dental clinics; determining budget and staffing requirements; and supervising a staff of dentists and dental assistants, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Legal Authorization to Work:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


License: Applicants must possess a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of Hawaii.
In order to receive credit, you MUST ATTACH a copy of your current State of Hawaii Dentist License to your application.

In addition, applicants for DENTIST MANAGER must possess the following:

Supervisory Aptitude: Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision.

Managerial Aptitude: Managerial aptitude will be considered to have been met through successful performance of, or substantial participation in, organizing, scheduling, and coordinating a group of activities in order to attain program objectives within time, resources and budgetary limitations.

Other Requirements: All applicants who are conditionally offered employment or conditionally approved for movement into any of these positions shall be subject to drug screening, as required by Federal, State or local laws or departmental policy; and will be subject to an intensive background check.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "...an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:
  1. Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
  2. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
  3. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.
  4. Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
