Springer Nature’s Research Integrity Group (RIG) supports all Springer Nature journals, books and databases in preventing and addressing concerns about research integrity and other breaches of publication ethics. We investigate research integrity cases and provide best practice action plans to ensure that we maintain the integrity of the published record.  

As Research Integrity Partner Manager, you will be part of the growing Resolutions team in RIG. This is a brand-new role, in which you will be responsible for working with third parties that we have contracted to help investigate and resolve research integrity concerns in the published record, largely related to image integrity and data integrity concerns. You will be leading the new Research Integrity Partner arm of the team, working together with contracted parties to make sure that they deliver on the goals we have set for them while maintaining quality, to ensure that cases are investigated and managed in line with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

This is a hybrid role based in Dordrecht. This location supports effective collaboration with the team and aligns with business needs.

Role Responsibilities

• Manage, coach, and develop the Research Integrity Partner Advisers by effectively directing work, building and sustaining high performance through the ability to build effective teams, and demonstrating being resilient while providing guidance in complex cases and acting as an escalation point
• Oversee research integrity case work carried out by a partner (third-party vendor), applying strong decision quality, scientific comprehension, and legal & regulatory advisory expertise to ensure consistency and alignment with editorial best practice (e.g., COPE) and Springer Nature policies
• Manage escalations from the partner (third-party vendor) into the Research Integrity team, utilizing manages complexity, conflict management, and legal & regulatory advisory skills, particularly in cases involving legal and communications stakeholders
• Monitor performance and quality across partner (third-party vendor) case work and Partner Adviser quality-control activity, using decision quality and project management capabilities to identify trends, address gaps, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining regular operational alignment
• Take responsibility for the professional and personal development of Research Integrity Partner Advisers by building effective teams, directing work, and fostering being resilient to support growth and capability development
• Lead the recruitment of new team members (including Partner Advisers), demonstrating decision quality and the ability to balance stakeholders while partnering effectively with Human Resources throughout the selection and interview process
• Oversee the project management and progress of cases processed by the partner (third-party vendor), leveraging strong project management, decision quality, and manages complexity skills to ensure timely resolution in line with Standard Operating Procedures and Key Performance Indicators
• Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g. senior management, communications, and legal teams) to resolve complex integrity issues, applying balances stakeholders, conflict management, and legal & regulatory advisory expertise
• Carefully manage and resolve conflict situations between stakeholders on research integrity cases using advanced conflict management, being resilient, and balances stakeholders capabilities
• Act as an expert contributor for training materials on publication ethics, utilizing scientific comprehension and strong decision quality to design and deliver impactful training (in-person or via webinar)
• Initiate, project manage, and contribute to tasks and projects related to compliance and workflow improvement by applying project management, manages complexity, and directing work skills
• Represent SNRIG externally and promote its work by leveraging scientific comprehension, balances stakeholders, and being resilient when engaging with external audiences, including industry events, editorial boards, and governmental organizations

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

Essential

• Demonstrable experience with a research integrity role at a publisher
• Educated to at least a graduate level in an academic field, with knowledge/experience of the publishing industry
• A good understanding of publication and research ethics concepts and familiarity with the academic publication process
• Line management experience
• Drive your professional development by seeking out training opportunities to further your and the team’s goals and objectives
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with senior and junior stakeholders both internally and externally
• A high level of computer literacy, including Office applications and Google Workspace
• Dynamism; ability to work well under high pressure and to reprioritise 'on the fly'; willingness to take responsibility for difficult decisions
• Familiarity with plagiarism detection software (CrossCheck/iThenticate) and image integrity software (Proofig, ImageTwin)
• Familiarity with copyright law
