Job Description:
SUMMARY:
Responsible for the efficient operation of the Security Department on the assigned shift in accordance with company policies, procedures and controls. Maintains close and continuous surveillance of all assigned non-gaming areas on the property, oversees investigations, and ensures the safety of guests, Team Members, and company assets. Provides or coordinates emergency medical aid (First Aid, CPR, AED) when EMT staff are unavailable, already engaged, or when directed by management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned:
• Represents the company in a professional manner, interacting effectively with guests and Team Members while delivering excellent customer service.
• Implements departmental and company procedures, and trains, schedules, evaluates and documents training for Security Officers on assigned shift.
• Supervises Security personnel on assigned shift. Provides leadership, direction, and coaching to ensure operational coverage, policy compliance, and readiness for security and medical response duties.
• Patrols the property, identifying potential security, medical, or safety hazards, and responds or reports appropriately.
• Provides immediate assistance during medical emergencies until EMTs or outside responders arrive, including CPR, AED, and First Aid. Ensures certifications are maintained and that Officers are prepared to respond.
• Reviews incident reports for completeness and accuracy; initiates follow-up investigations.
• Conducts full investigations of escalated or sensitive incidents, including guest complaints, workplace misconduct, theft, policy violations, and compliance matters. Coordinates with Human Resources, the Tribal Gaming Commission, and law enforcement as required.
• Communicates effectively to the Director of Security regarding incidents, emergencies, and changes in department status.
• Assists in departmental training programs and contributes to procedure updates and documentation.
• Maintains working knowledge of property facilities and special events to assist guests and fellow Team Members.
• Provides operational support for traffic control and parking areas as needed.
• Protects company assets and integrity by monitoring activities, identifying risks, and documenting or reporting illegal, suspicious, or unusual activities.
• Coordinates with Sergeants on preliminary investigations and escalates matters requiring further attention.
• Assists the Tribal Gaming Commission in investigations involving criminal or civil matters occurring on casino property. Forwards finding through the chain of command.
• Identifies and recommends improvements to security, safety, and loss prevention policies and practices.
• Maintains professional relationships with local, state, federal, and tribal agencies, and with industry peers, to remain informed of emerging threats and best practices
• Ensures strict compliance with applicable regulations, including the National Indian Gaming Commission, Tribal-State Compact, Tribal Ordinances, and company policies.
• Maintains confidentiality of all investigations and sensitive information.
• Demonstrates professional conduct at all times, including in public and online forums, consistent with company policies.
• Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings to support effective communication across the property.
• Maintains consistent, regular attendance and availability for assigned shifts.
• Performs other reasonable duties as requested by management.
• Maintains professional personal hygiene and adheres to company grooming and uniform standards. Must report to work clean, well groomed, and in proper uniform to uphold a professional image and ensure a positive guest experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervises all Security personnel on the assigned shift.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, coaching, and administering discipline.
• Promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or four to six years related experience, or an equivalent combination of college and experience is preferred. At least one year experience as a Security Sergeant or equivalent is preferred.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of three years’ experience in law enforcement or gaming security preferred. Knowledge of and experience with closed circuit television equipment preferred. Excellent communication skills required. Must be flexible in hours, days, and shift and may be subject to change shifts at a moment’s notice based on Director of Security’s direction. Ability to lead during emergencies, including medical events, evacuations, and law enforcement incidents. Most possess and maintain current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid (training provided post-probationary period). Certification must remain active throughout employment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write clear and accurate reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of guests or Team Members. Ability to be recorded while speaking for training, events, and awards.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk or hear. The Team Member is also regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls. The Team Member is frequently required to sit. The Team Member is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The Team Member must be physically capable of performing CPR, utilizing an AED, and assisting with lifting or moving guests and Team Members during medical emergencies. The Team Member is regularly required to lift and/or move up to fifty pounds and occasionally up to one hundred pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to walk the stairwells from the basement level all the way to the 11th floor of the Picayune Tower in preparation of an emergency.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Team Member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The Team Member is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be loud on the casino floor. The Team Member will be exposed to a smoke-filled environment. The position may require working in high-stress emergencies involving medical incidents, evacuations, or law enforcement response.
May be required to place an individual under citizen arrest and in handcuffs when warranted. Must carry handcuffs and a bodycam at all times.
