Description

Senior Associate / Special Counsel | Dust Diseases

Looking for a role where you can take ownership of complex litigation, have a genuine say in how matters are run and continue building your reputation as a specialist in defendant insurance?

We are working with a well-established national law firm seeking an experienced Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join its Melbourne defendant insurance practice.

This is an opportunity to work on challenging, technically interesting matters while enjoying the autonomy and professional support to take your career further.

The Opportunity

  • You will handle a broad range of complex defendant dust disease litigation, including:
  • Asbestos and mesothelioma claims, involving complex questions of liability, exposure and causation.
  • Silicosis and occupational disease litigation, including emerging claims and evolving legal issues.
  • Multi-party disputes involving employers, insurers, manufacturers and other defendants.
  • High-value personal injury claims, including contested liability and quantum.
  • Litigation strategy, mediations and settlements, working closely with counsel, medical experts and clients.
  • You will be trusted to manage your own matters, provide strategic advice and build strong relationships with key clients.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Join a progressive national firm where your experience and judgement will be genuinely valued. This role offers the chance to work on sophisticated, high-stakes litigation without unnecessary layers of hierarchy, giving you greater control over your matters, direct client contact and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the growth of the practice.

About You

We are interested in speaking with lawyers who have:

  • Experience at Senior Associate or Special Counsel level in defendant insurance litigation.
  • A background in dust diseases, asbestos litigation, occupational liability or complex personal injury defence.
  • Strong experience managing litigated claims and developing defence strategies.
  • Excellent client management, advocacy and negotiation skills.
  • A commercially minded approach and the confidence to run matters autonomously.
