Department: Division of Business, Public Safety, and Technology
General Statement of Job
The Initiatives Manager for the Division of Business, Public Safety, and Technology (BPST) plays a crucial role in fostering collaboration, overseeing initiatives, and ensuring the successful implementation of projects within the division. They work closely with internal stakeholders, such as College departments, Program Chairs, Site Administrators/Managers, as well as external partners, to align initiatives and activities, develop funding strategies, and seek opportunities for projects and partnerships. Leads the division in compliance with institutional requirements, and provides guidance for data-driven planning and continuous improvement. Supports collaborative and strategic efforts contribute to the division's success and promote excellence in the areas of business, public safety, and technology. Additionally, the Initiatives Manager supports the identification, development, implementation, and administration of grant opportunities that advance division priorities and ensure compliance with institutional and grant requirements
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Works collaboratively with Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology (BPST) leadership team, including department chairs and administrative staff.
- Works collaboratively with College and outside Stakeholders to align initiatives and activities, including industry certifications, Occupational Skill Awards (OSA), certificates, and other stackable credentials.
- Works collaboratively with the Division Dean and key stakeholders to plan, review, and implement initiatives and strategies related to state community college funding models, including performance based funding and other applicable funding initiatives.
- Directs evaluation and monitoring of projects, licensing, program initiatives and strategies within the Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology (BPST), including the Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence’s TCOLE license and activities associated with this.
- Maintains cooperative working relations with faculty, staff, and administration college-wide, as well as with external partners, fostering strong partnerships and collaboration.
- Develops monthly summary reports for any special projects, initiatives and strategies related to the Dean of Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology (BPST), including initiatives under the Chief Administrator (Division Dean) for the TCOLE Academy License.
- Develops and presents on initiatives within the Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology (BPST) at College-Wide committees, and at regional, state, and national conferences.
- Serves on College-wide committees as appropriate and as appointed by immediate supervisor.
- Leads the Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology (BPST) in the development of proposals for program recognition and awards at the national and state level.
- Reviews proposals submitted by academic departments and Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence for potential grant and partnership opportunities.
- Serves as Principal Investigator for BPST grants, as assigned, and works collaboratively with the BPST Project Manager and appropriate College offices to support grant implementation, compliance, reporting, and successful completion.
- Supports the Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Academy Licensing initiatives and expansion projects.
- Leads the Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology (BPST) as point of contact with the Office of Sponsored Initiatives (OSI) and Academic Affairs.
- Serves as the primary division point of contact with Communication and Creative Services to oversee Marketing project initiatives and communications.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for the initial collaborative planning of grants, special projects, and licensing updates for the Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology (BPST) and the Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence.
- Monitors budgets and expenditures for major academic and non – academic grants and projects are in compliance with grant requirements.
- Collaborates with Program Chairs and Site Administrators/Managers to monitor the implementation of strategies, activities, and initiatives that support the division's goals and objectives.
- Provides guidance to the Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology (BPST) and the Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence to support data-driven planning and continuous improvement initiatives for programs and projects.
- Monitors the progress and outcomes of initiatives within the Division of BPST, identifying areas for improvement and proposing solutions to enhance effectiveness.
- Represents the Dean of BPST at various assigned meetings, conveying the division's perspective and ensuring effective communication between the Dean and relevant stakeholders.
- Supervises assigned staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree required.
- At least one (1) year of work experience in higher education required.
- At least three (3) years of project management experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Effective leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
- Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Security Sensitive position: All applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.

- Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
Physical Requirements
