The Technical Writer will write, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.
This position is on-site in Orlando, Fl. This position is not eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Develop comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards.
- Gain deep understanding of products and services, and translate complex information into simple, polished, engaging content.
- Research, outline, write, and edit content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements.
- Gather information from subject-matter experts and develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
- Experience in working with engineers to improve user experience (ex: design, UI), refine content, and create visuals and diagrams for technical support content.
- Composes, reviews, and edits technical documents, materials, and reports.
- Researches, develops, and disseminates information on techniques for organizing and presenting information.
- Develop, prepare, and disseminate policies and procedures for written document.
- Research and evaluate new documentation tools and methods.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1-year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
- Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel as well as Adobe Acrobat
- Knowledgeable in Windows, Microsoft Project, and Visio
- Analytical and critical thinking skills
- Must be a US citizen, currently hold and able to maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Firm understanding of SDLC (systems development lifecycle)
- Ability to conduct research; to compose, review, illustrate, and edit technical documents, materials, and reports; and to communicate effectively.
