Description
Supervision is provided by the Assistant Fire Chief and, in some cases, the Fire Chief
Responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and leading the functions of the logistics division.
Works with the Fire Chief and Assistant Chief to ensure efficient operations of assigned department activities.
Prepares and oversees the preparation of monthly, annual, and other periodic reports of the activities of the division for submission to the Assistant Fire Chief.
Prepares and submits annual logistics budget to the Fire Chief.
Develops and oversees a comprehensive fleet management program.
Evaluates and recommends replacement of apparatus and equipment.
Prepares and reviews technical specifications for purchasing new vehicles and equipment.
Develops and maintains effective vendor relationships.
Serves as a liaison with manufacturer representatives and vendors regarding equipment procurements and maintenance. Negotiates with manufacturers, suppliers, and vendors.
Creates requests for quotes and issues purchase orders.
Serves as a member of the department’s Executive staff.
Completes minor repairs and maintenance on fire department vehicles and equipment.
Troubleshoots and diagnoses electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic malfunctions on apparatuses and equipment.
Coordinates and instructs shift personnel regarding routine repairs and maintenance.
Coordinates repairs and maintenance with vendors.
Performs standard shipping/receiving functions, verifies items upon delivery, and ensures shipping manifest balances with invoices.
Assists in maintaining the computerized inventory system of all Equipment and Supplies.
Oversees the receiving and management of fire department inventory such as PPE, self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA), assets on vehicles, etc.
Processes supply requests from stations.
Monitors inventory levels to reduce City supply costs, maximize space, and forecast inventory needs.
Performs inventory control functions, including cycle counts, audits, and visual verifications.
Recommends and provides training as it relates to operations for Firefighters.
Recommends and attends outside training classes, seminars, workshops, and other opportunities.
Studies technical materials on equipment operation, fire suppression, and fire prevention to maintain or improve performance.
Attends scheduled training necessary to maintain any certifications.
Recommends materials and equipment needs to the Battalion Chief of Support Services.
Completes routine paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
Submits purchase order requests to the Fire Chief or designee for approval.
Helps review specifications for new apparatuses, equipment, etc., as requested.
Coordinates the cleaning, repair, and scheduling for pickup and delivery of PPE required by policy.
Communicates and consults with vendors to locate supplies, parts, tools, and equipment.
Delivers and picks up apparatuses for vendor repairs and maintenance.
Operates various types of fire apparatuses and equipment.
Operates computer, copy machine, telephone, and all shop-related equipment.
Operates inspection and diagnostic equipment including but not limited to A/C gauges, volt-ohmmeter, amp meter, pressure gauges, nozzles, etc.
Assists staff as needed when workload is excessive.
May be required to work weekends, holidays, on-call, and extended hours in emergency, disaster, or other situations influenced by heavy workloads or staffing difficulties.
Responds to requests and inquiries from the public, other fire department personnel, and other City departments. Works indoors and outdoors, subject to extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
Conforms to applicable City and department policies and procedures.

Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers, and others.

Generally, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, or Emergency Services, or two (2) years of vocational, technical, or trade school and four (4) years of technical experience in fire and/or EMS fleet and/or equipment fleet operations, facilities operations, or information and communication systems operations, to include experience in the fire and/or EMS administrative aspects of fleet and/or equipment, facilities, or information and communications systems management, or any equivalent combination with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
High School Diploma or GED certificate.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Valid Class C Driver's License, with clear driving record. Must have Texas Driver's License within 30 days of hire. Must possess a valid Texas Class B Exempt (Class A preferred) Driver’s License within six months of employment.
Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications preferred.
