Responsibilities

Role overview

The AI Engineer designs, builds and operates production systems that process large volumes of documents and emails across multiple regions. The role combines software engineering and GenAI to turn unstructured content into reliable, usable data, with particular attention to sensitive information, access controls, validation and AI guardrails.The position requires strong software engineering fundamentals, experience delivering GenAI in production and adaptability across languages and ecosystems. A solid backend background is essential, alongside the ability to deliver usable interfaces, including with AI development tools. Advanced full-stack expertise is an advantage.Working directly with stakeholders, the engineer takes solutions from discovery and design through implementation, deployment and operation. The role requires independent investigation, sound technical judgement and clear communication, with support from the manager and technical lead.

 

Responsibilities

• Discuss needs directly with clients, investigate incomplete requirements, ask focused questions and propose practical solutions and trade-offs.
• Understand existing systems through documentation, specifications and code, then independently plan and deliver features without step-by-step guidance.
• Design and implement maintainable backend services, APIs, data flows and user interfaces for document ingestion and other business workflows.
• Integrate LLM services and combine retrieval, embeddings and agentic workflows into reliable applications, managing context, rate limits, failures, cost and latency.
• Write tests, debug issues and review code. Evaluate AI outputs and implement appropriate guardrails and human review where needed.
• Support deployment, monitoring and troubleshooting in Azure, collaborating with DevOps specialists where available and handling basic delivery tasks independently where needed.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering fundamentals: application design and structure, separation of responsibilities, APIs, data handling, error handling, testing and debugging.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning or AI-related roles, with at least 2 years focused on Generative AI and LLM-based solutions.
• Experience delivering GenAI features in production, beyond proof-of-concept or personal projects, with responsibility for integration and operational behaviour.
• Hands-on experience using RAG, embeddings and Agentic AI together in a solution, and understanding how retrieval and agent workflows interact.
• Practical use of LLM APIs, prompting and context management, including rate limiting, error recovery and optimisation of cost, latency and reliability.
• Practical AI-assisted development with at least one tool such as GitHub Copilot, Codex or Claude Code, using critical judgement, code review and tests to verify generated code.
• Basic hands-on Azure and DevOps skills
• Ability to implement usable frontend interfaces, for example with React, TypeScript or JavaScript, including with AI assistance. You do not need to know every frontend technology.
