Position Purpose:

The Recovery Supervisor oversees daily recovery operations, supervises Recovery Technicians, and ensures compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. In partnership with Recovery leadership, this role supports staff development, process improvements, team training, and a positive, mission-driven culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete ocular tissue procurements, including donor history review, assessments, blood collection, tissue recovery, and accurate documentation in the eye bank database.
  • Train and onboard new recovery technicians through shadowing and hands-on training in ocular tissue procurement procedures while maintaining designated trainer competency.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for daily operational issues and technician support across the territory, including participation in the Administrator On Call (AOC) rotations for both Technician Logistics and Donor Logistics to provide after-hours operational support as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), EBAA, FDA, HIPAA and all federal and state regulations, including completion of annual competency reviews.
  • Support quality and compliance through timely QA reporting, investigations and accurate operational documentation.
  • Develop and maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and manage employee timekeeping, attendance, time sheet approval, and PTO monitoring. 
  • Lead monthly team meetings, and routine one-on-one (O3) meetings with recovery technicians. 
  • Partner with the Recovery Manager on providing input on performance feedback, recognition, and corrective actions. 
  • Partner with Human Resources and management to support recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of new team members. 
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with team members, leadership, and external partners. 
  • Maintain adequate supply inventory for operational needs. 
  • Ensure facility equipment and company vehicles are used properly and maintained in good working order.

  • Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficient in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, general database functionality, and web-based applications. 
  • Ability to manage time effectively while overseeing multiple tasks, priorities, and staff needs. 

Basic Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record as determined by the organization. 
  • Must have reliable transportation. 
  • Required to have a yearly influenza vaccination.  
  • Completion of Hepatitis B vaccination, or documented declination is required before performing duties.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Medical or biological science background preferred, including familiarity with medical terminology. 
  • Supervisory experience including demonstrated coaching, employee development, and training experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and best practices for maintaining sterility in controlled environments. 
  • Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and phone communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and safely operate a vehicle for extended periods in various conditions, including long-distances, nighttime, and inclement weather. 
  • Frequent periods of intense concentration, attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring prolonged use of printed materials and computer screens. 
  • Ability to perform delicate manual procedures with a high degree of dexterity. 
  • Long periods of sitting and/or standing required. 
  • Ability to lift and position a donor following safety techniques.
  • Lift equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • May require occasional use of stairs to access work areas or facilities. 

Working Environment:

  • Work is performed in multiple environments, including normal office settings, hospitals (ICU, inpatient units, operating rooms, morgue), funeral homes or mortuaries, and medical examiner facilities. 
  • Requires travel throughout the service region, including driving to other locations. 
  • Must maintain flexibility for 24-hour operations, including on-call coverage during day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts, with occasional work beyond scheduled hours. 
  • The schedule is based on the business needs of the location which can include 12-hour call shifts.
