Description

The Business Application Specialist provides software and operational support for the business area(s) that they are assigned. The position maintains the integrity of the application by setting standards for data usage and collection; provides training and first tier software support for end users, implements, tests and reviews changes after modifications. The Business Application Specialist also participates in the coordination of system upgrades and maintenance projects for specific applications. The incumbent is expected to understand the data challenges of the business and assists with the automation process by liaising with IS division or vendors for modifications.
- Audits content and quality of data by creating reports; recognizes, defines and correct problems related to data reported
- Identifies changes required, coordinates with relevant parties and resources to implement changes
- Trains end users on the business application; includes on-going training when enhancements and changes are implemented
- Assists in analyzing business processes; revises and implements automation utilizing the existing business application
- Initiates testing and review after each change/new implementations
- Communicates changes and updates or if relevant, project status to end users
- Logs information into the applications; manual or upload
- Performs administrative duties in support of the department's operation and administration of programs and projects

Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of the software life cycle
- System maintenance and upgrade applicable to the applications
- Business and information systems modeling methods
- Basic mathematic/statistic to interpret or reconcile reports
Abilities
- Communicate technical information and requirements; work with internal or external teams for resolution
- Ability to understand the business and all related processes in which the application system is supporting
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
- Ability to work and reconcile expectations with groups of conflicting interests
- Modify, test and roll out user interfaces of the applications
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of city staff and vendors
- Train application users as assigned
- Analyze application related problems and provide solution
Education and Experience
College level course work or graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with a degree in computing, project management or related field
Two (2) years' experience in project management, technical systems or related field
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
