Description
We are seeking a US Tax Assistant to join our growing US Tax team, which forms part of our wider Private Client Tax practice. The ideal candidate will have a broad background in US tax laws and regulations, tax planning, compliance and client management.
As a Tax Assistant, you will work on a portfolio of US tax clients, delivering high-quality compliance services, whilst supporting advisory and planning projects, providing strategic tax advice, and building strong client relationships. You will work closely with colleagues across the broader Private Client Tax team, contributing specialist US tax expertise to deliver an integrated service to clients with US tax requirements.
As a Tax Assistant, you will work on a portfolio of US tax clients, delivering high-quality compliance services, whilst supporting advisory and planning projects, providing strategic tax advice, and building strong client relationships. You will work closely with colleagues across the broader Private Client Tax team, contributing specialist US tax expertise to deliver an integrated service to clients with US tax requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Work on a portfolio of US clients: be involved all aspects of the tax compliance and wider relationship management.
- Prepare and review US tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts and estates.
- Assist in maintaining strong relationships with clients, identify missing information for tax preparation and communicating this in a timely and professional manner.
- Support Manager and Director in providing market-leading advice to US connected clients in the UK.
- Ability to manage workload to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff.
- Work collaboratively with the wider tax team.
- Focus on continuing to develop your technical knowledge with the support of the team, including studies toward tax qualifications such as Enrolled Agent.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of US tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Previous experience in US tax compliance and advisory services in personal and owner managed businesses, including preparing Streamlined filings, Forms 1040, 1040NR, 3520, 5471 and 8858 – experience across all areas is not required but is preferred.
- Previous experience in US tax compliance services in corporation and partnership tax, including form 1120, 1120-F, and 1065 – experience across all areas is not required but is preferred.
- US Enrolled Agent (EA) is not essential but preferred.
- UK tax technical knowledge is preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve tax issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients and team members at all levels.
