This is a pivotal role in bringing our IFRS 17 reporting practice to new heights. Specifically, this role will lead a group of actuarial students / junior actuaries in delivering IFRS 17 reporting requirements, including but not limited to reserves, Drivers of Earnings analysis, Contractual Service Margin (CSM) and New Business CSM analysis, and other Group requirements for the assigned lines of businesses. We would also expect the role to ever-improve efficiency and effectiveness in financial results production, leveraging technologies and extensive support from various internal parties / Group and Regional offices.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead a small team of actuarial students / junior actuaries to deliver IFRS 17 reporting requirements, including but not limited to reserves, Drivers of Earnings analysis, Contractual Service Margin (CSM) and New Business CSM analysis, and other Group requirements for the assigned lines of businesses.
Cooperate with other teams under the Hong Kong Chief Actuary’s leadership, as well as departments of the larger Manulife IFRS 17 community (such as the Valuation Shared Service Center, as well as Group and Regional offices), to
(1) maintain valuation models up to external / internal audit and control requirements,
(2) deliver process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency and effectiveness in financial results production, and
(3) to assist in other IFRS 17 / related requirements to support Manulife Hong Kong’s business strategy where appropriate.Lead and coach junior staff members to deliver the above requirements and to support their development.
Required Qualifications:
Degree holder with professional actuarial qualifications such as FSA, FIA or equivalent, or close to attainment of such qualifications.
Solid actuarial knowledge and experience in valuation, financial reporting, and/or product pricing. Experience in IFRS 17 in / for a direct life insurer is a plus.
7-10 years of relevant working experience in insurance industry.
Strong leadership, project management and coordination skills, with experience leading and/or coaching junior colleagues an asset.
Strong stakeholder management, including internal senior stakeholders, other relevant internal and external stakeholders, and members within the team.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work with complex financial issues and concepts, paying attention to details.
Has credibility and presence amongst peers and senior management through strong verbal, written and presentation skills. Can communicate clearly and succinctly on technical and business matters.
Willing and able to lead, encourage, support and develop more junior colleagues.
Able to lead and manage multiple and conflicting requests from various parties with demanding deadlines and under pressure.
Effective command of English, both spoken and written.
