The Role 

The Portfolio Operations team at Moderna is responsible for management of the development portfolio from lead nomination to licensure. Moderna is seeking a motivated and energetic Sr Manager, Portfolio Operations to lead the execution, coordination, and continuous improvement of portfolio governance and senior leadership reporting processes across one or more operating units. The successful candidate will work closely with Program Management, Portfolio Analytics & Governance, Development leaders, Finance, Portfolio & Program Strategy, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure governance and reporting processes are clear, consistent, fit-for-purpose, and aligned with Moderna’s evolving operating model.

Here’s What You’ll Do  

  • Lead Portfolio Operations activities for one or more operating units, including governance coordination, executive-level reporting, stakeholder alignment, and issue escalation.
  • Identify and implement improvements to governance processes, templates, timelines, operating rhythms, decision tracking, stakeholder engagement, and change management approaches.
  • Own coordination of the monthly clinical and development program update process for the Executive Committee, including input collection, synthesis of key messages, quality control, timeline management, and senior stakeholder alignment.
  • Support preparation of quarterly Board update materials and memos by coordinating cross-functional inputs, shaping content, ensuring consistency of portfolio messaging, and highlighting key portfolio progress, decisions, risks, and upcoming milestones.
  • Drive integration with Portfolio Analytics to embed fit-for-purpose portfolio reporting, dashboards, operational metrics, enrollment updates, data deliverables, and program goal tracking into governance and executive-level reporting processes.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Program Management, Development leaders, Portfolio Analytics & Governance, Finance, Clinical Development, Program Leads, Program Managers, and functional stakeholders to enable effective execution, escalation, decision support, and senior-level communication.
  • Provide flexible support for emerging Portfolio Operations priorities as Moderna’s operating model, governance needs, and development portfolio continue to evolve.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • BS with 8-10+ years in biotech/pharma
  • Advanced degree with 7-9+ years
  • Significant experience in portfolio management, governance, or program strategy
  • Demonstrated leadership of enterprise-wide initiatives
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Demonstrated experience building a governance function
  • Experience in drug development, preclinical through clinical development
  • Strong analytical skills, business knowledge and understanding of clinical development drivers. 
  • Proven ability to analyze, develop and contribute to development of conceptual plans and lead implementation of process improvements and change initiatives across the organization. 
  • Must be adept at working in a fluid environment and foster a strong collaborative spirit internally and externally. 
  • Strong personal skills to influence without authority within a highly technical environment, motivate others and manage conflict. 
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with senior and executive leadership. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills as well as demonstrated organizational aptitude.

The salary range for this role is $130,800.00 - $209,400.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
