We are looking for a Senior MS SQL Database Administrator to support database development, performance optimization, and maintenance activities while partnering closely with application development teams to deliver scalable and reliable data solutions. This position will be Full-time, Hybrid - Bengaluru.
What You'll Do
Perform routine database maintenance activities, including indexing, vacuuming, statistics updates, and performance monitoring
Monitor database health and proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve performance bottlenecks, blocking issues, and long-running queries
Design and implement data archiving and purging strategies to optimize storage utilization and maintain database performance
Configure, schedule, and monitor database jobs, maintenance plans, alerts, and automated tasks
Collaborate with software development teams to support database enhancements and application-driven data solutions
Design, develop, test, and maintain complex stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and database objects in PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server
Review and optimize database schemas, indexes, queries, and table structures to improve system performance and scalability
Define and enforce database development standards, including naming conventions, indexing strategies, schema design principles, and key constraints
Participate in application design discussions and provide recommendations on database architecture, data modeling, and storage strategies
Act as the primary reviewer and approver for database-related code and schema changes before deployment
Analyze query execution plans and provide recommendations for query optimization and performance improvement
Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for critical database issues and recurring performance incidents
Evaluate and leverage AI-powered tools and automation solutions to improve database administration processes, query tuning, monitoring, and documentation
Partner with DevOps, Engineering, and Tech Services teams to ensure smooth database operations and alignment with business objectives
Provide production environment analysis and troubleshooting support while coordinating with infrastructure and production DBA teams on server-level activities
What You'll Need
Required:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Science, Engineering, or a related field
10+ years of hands-on Database Administration experience with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL
Strong understanding of relational database concepts, including indexing, query planning, transactions, locking mechanisms, and concurrency management
Proven experience writing and optimizing complex stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and queries
Hands-on experience with database performance tuning, execution plan analysis, and query optimization
Experience performing database maintenance activities, including vacuuming, index rebuilds, statistics management, and data purging
Experience configuring, scheduling, and monitoring database jobs, alerts, and automated maintenance processes
Strong knowledge of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high availability concepts
Experience collaborating with software development teams and supporting application database requirements
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, or similar technologies
Exposure to graph databases, vector databases, or knowledge graph platforms such as Neo4j, Pinecone, pgvector, or AllegroGraph
Experience working with RDF/SPARQL-based data platforms
Familiarity with AI/LLM-powered tools for database optimization, anomaly detection, documentation, and root cause analysis
Experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, PostgreSQL certifications, or equivalent database certifications
