Description
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven general manager to oversee and manage all timber manufacturing operations within our business. The successful candidate will be a strong leader with extensive experience in large-scale timber manufacturing, production planning, workforce management, and quality control.
This role requires a hands-on operational leader capable of managing multiple departments, driving efficiencies, maintaining production schedules, and ensuring exceptional workmanship standards across all manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead and manage all manufacturing operations within the timber production facility – Machine Shop, Joinery, Paintshop and liaising with Engineering – Steel Factory.
- Ensure production targets, delivery schedules, and quality standards are consistently achieved.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
- Monitor operational performance and implement corrective actions where required.
- Manage Raw Materials – ensuring and maintaining stock levels of high-volume materials.
Production Management
- Oversee production planning and scheduling to ensure optimal workflow and resource utilization.
- Coordinate closely with the Drawing Office, Production Planning Department, and Site Project Managers.
- Ensure efficient material flow throughout the manufacturing process.
- Managing workflow thru the dpt – production line – from Machine shop to Joinery – to Paintshop Shop.
- Manage production bottlenecks and implement solutions to maintain deadlines. Implement QC.
Workforce Management
- Directly oversee and lead manufacturing teams including:
- Machine Shop (25 employees)
- Joinery Department (40 employees)
- Paint Line (15 employees)
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high performance.
- Mentor supervisors and department managers.
- Manage staff performance, attendance, training, and development.
Quality Control
- Maintain exceptional quality standards throughout manufacturing.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of finished products.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and technical drawings.
- Implement and maintain quality management systems and procedures.
Health & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Promote a safe working environment across all departments.
- Drive housekeeping and factory discipline standards.
Technical Oversight
- Interpret and review detailed technical and manufacturing drawings.
- Provide technical guidance to production teams.
- Ensure correct manufacturing methods, materials, finishes, and substrates are used throughout production.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Manufacturing, Production Management, Wood Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Additional management qualifications will be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in large-scale timber manufacturing.
- Proven experience in a senior production or operational management role.
- Experience managing large manufacturing teams and multiple departments.
- Previous experience within the shopfitting, cabinetry, furniture manufacturing, or retail fixture industry will be highly advantageous.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of:
- Cabinet making and joinery processes
- CNC machinery and machine shop operations
- Timber manufacturing techniques
- Spray finishing and paint line operations
- Various timber products, substrates, laminates, veneers, Solid Surfaces, and finishes
- Production planning and scheduling system
- Ability to read and interpret detailed technical manufacturing drawings.
