Description
The Foreman will ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget while maintaining high-quality workmanship. This role involves direct supervision of field laborers and craft workers, requiring strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Construction Foreman Responsibilities:
Project Coordination & Resource Management:
- Plans and oversees job-specific activities, ensuring efficient use of skilled labor, equipment, materials, and resources
- Aligns daily operations with project specifications, schedules, and deadlines
- Coordinates with project managers and superintendents to ensure clear direction and workflow continuity
Team Leadership & Workforce Development:
- Leads, mentors, and motivates field crew members to build a high-performing, goal-oriented team
- Provides on-the-job training, feedback, and performance guidance to support team development
- Promotes a culture of accountability, productivity, and mutual respect among the crew
Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
- Enforces company and industry safety policies, procedures, and best practices on the job site
- Serves as a safety role model, ensuring all work is completed in compliance with OSHA, INDOT, and other applicable regulations
- Conducts regular safety meetings and inspections to proactively address risks
Problem Solving & Quality Control:
- Identifies project issues or inefficiencies and implements timely, effective solutions
- Collaborates with superintendents and other foremen to resolve technical and personnel challenges
- Ensures workmanship meets quality standards, project specs, and client expectations
Stakeholder & Communication Management:
- Maintains strong working relationships with project managers, superintendents, quality control teams, subcontractors, and INDOT representatives
- Provides regular updates, communicates field progress, and relays challenges and needs to relevant stakeholders
- Fosters a collaborative environment across field and office teams to support successful project delivery
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Project Planning & Organization: Ability to prioritize tasks, monitor project timelines, and adjust plans as needed to mitigate risks and ensure efficiency.
- Problem-Solving: Apply logical and systematic approaches to identifying and resolving construction-related challenges.
- Leadership & Team Management: Inspire and lead a team, address performance issues fairly and consistently, and involve team members in decision-making processes.
- Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of workplace safety practices and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and worker protection.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders and ensure project alignment.
- Technical Expertise: Experience with one or more of the following: asphalt, concrete, excavation, and/or underground utilities.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant construction experience preferred.
- Experience in supervisory or leadership roles in a construction setting is a plus.
- Ability to navigate tight areas
