Dispatcher – $20/hr
Location: Brooklyn

At First Student, our Dispatchers play a vital role in keeping our operations safe, reliable, and on schedule. You’ll be responsible for coordinating bus routes, ensuring on-time performance, and supporting drivers and monitors with frontline communication.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, schools, and administrators regarding bus delays, schedule updates, or stop concerns.
- Actively manage complaints, answer heavy-volume phone calls, and provide creative, real-time solutions for pick-up/drop-off issues.
- Monitor route progress and communicate with drivers via two-way radio.
- Monitor on-time performance.
- Coordinating with emergency services, management, and maintenance teams during accidents, incidents, or mechanical failures
- Maintain a variety of records and files related to bus transportation.
- Ability to create and work with spreadsheets and other forms of computer data.
- Support routing relating to drivers and routes
- Assist drivers with day-to-day operational questions and route needs
- Resolve customer or service problems directly when appropriate or escalate to the Operations Complaints Supervisor or Location Leadership
- Complete special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (commercial vehicle license preferred)
- 1-3 years of relevant experience (dispatch, terminal operations, or driving)
- Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with computers and radio dispatch systems
- Ability to multitask and work under time constraints
