Description
Title of Role: Technical Lead (Full-Stack)
Location: San Francisco, CA
Company Stage of Funding: Series A (Venture-Backed, AI Startup)
Office Type: Onsite – 5 Days per Week
Salary: $200,000 – $290,000 Base + Equity
Company Description
We’re representing a fast-growing, venture-backed AI startup building an enterprise platform that automates complex financial workflows for large organizations. Focused on transforming one of the most manual and overlooked areas of enterprise operations, the company leverages cutting-edge AI to streamline invoicing, cash application, and collections for major businesses.
With strong early traction, backing from leading AI-focused investors, and a team of approximately 20 employees, the company is entering its next phase of growth. As they scale toward and beyond Series A, they are investing heavily in engineering leadership to build a world-class technical organization.
This is a rare opportunity to join at an inflection point—where product-market fit is real, revenue is growing, and the engineering culture is still being shaped.
What You Will Do
As a Technical Lead, you will operate in a true player-coach capacity, splitting your time approximately 50/50 between hands-on coding and technical leadership.
You will:
-
Lead the design, architecture, and delivery of core product and platform initiatives.
-
Partner closely with the CTO to drive technical direction, prioritize initiatives, and make high-impact architectural decisions.
-
Write, review, and debug production-grade code to ensure long-term scalability and maintainability.
-
Conduct thorough PR reviews and raise the engineering quality bar across the team.
-
Mentor and support junior engineers, helping accelerate their growth and performance.
-
Improve engineering processes across sprint planning, prioritization, and execution.
-
Play a key role in shaping hiring decisions, team culture, and technical standards as the organization scales.
The current stack includes TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js, React, Prisma, and Vercel. While prior experience with this exact stack is helpful, strong full-stack fundamentals are most important.
Ideal Candidate Background
-
4–8 years of software engineering experience.
-
Currently operating at (or ready to step into) a Staff Engineer, Tech Lead, or Engineering Manager (managing individual contributors) level.
-
Strong hands-on full-stack development experience, including proficiency in TypeScript or similar modern languages.
-
Demonstrated experience designing system architecture for new products or major features.
-
Experience conducting code reviews and mentoring junior engineers.
-
Has been actively coding within the past 1–2 years.
-
Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments.
-
Comfortable balancing ownership, speed, and high engineering standards.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another STEM field (or equivalent practical experience).
This role is not a fit for candidates who have recently only managed managers and are no longer hands-on technically.
Preferred
-
Experience in both high-performing large tech companies and early-stage startups.
-
Background in fintech, B2B SaaS, AI, or enterprise software.
-
Experience scaling systems from early traction to rapid growth.
-
Prior experience formally managing or leading engineers.
-
Interest in growing into broader engineering leadership as the company scales.
Compensation and Benefits
-
Base salary: $200,000 – $290,000 (depending on experience and level).
-
Equity: Meaningful early-stage equity (up to ~0.5%).
-
Visa sponsorship: TN visa sponsorship available; other visa types considered on a case-by-case basis.
-
Full-time, onsite role based in San Francisco (5 days per week).
-
Opportunity to join at a pivotal growth stage with significant career upside.
Why This Role Is Compelling
-
Build Real AI Systems: Work on production AI systems that automate mission-critical financial workflows for large enterprises.
-
High Ownership: Act as the right hand to the CTO and directly influence architecture, culture, and hiring.
-
Career Acceleration: Clear path toward broader engineering leadership as the team scales.
-
Early-Stage Leverage: Join at a moment of rapid growth, where your impact will be visible and lasting.
-
Strong Market Opportunity: Tackle a massive enterprise problem with clear ROI and real customer demand.
If you’re a strong hands-on engineer ready to step into a leadership role—while still writing meaningful production code—this is a high-impact opportunity to shape both a product and a team from the ground up.
