Overview
Who we are
Collaborative. Respectful. A place to dream and do. These are just a few words that describe what life is like at Toyota. As one of the world’s most admired brands, Toyota is growing and leading the future of mobility through innovative, high-quality solutions designed to enhance lives and delight those we serve. We’re looking for talented team members who want to Dream. Do. Grow. with us.
An important part of the Toyota family is Toyota Financial Services (TFS), the finance and insurance brand for Toyota and Lexus in North America. While TFS is a separate business entity, it is an essential part of this world-changing company- delivering on Toyota's vision to move people beyond what's possible. At TFS, you will help create best-in-class customer experience in an innovative, collaborative environment.
Toyota does not offer support or sponsorship of job applicants for employment-based visas or any other work authorization for this role now or in the future. You must have the right to work in the United States and not require Toyota support or sponsorship for immigration-related employment (e.g., H-1B, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, F-1 CPT, ‘job flexibility benefits’ [also known as I-140 or Adjustment of Status portability], etc.) now or in the future. You should not apply for this role if you will require Toyota to assist with immigration support or sponsorship now or in the future.
Who we're looking for
Toyota Financial Services' DevOps Department is seeking a Lead, DevOps Engineer to operate on the individual-contributor track. This is a senior technical leadership role for an engineer who drives outcomes through deep technical expertise, cross-team influence, and hands-on execution rather than through people management.
The Lead, DevOps Engineer sets technical direction for cloud-native platforms, defines DevOps and automation standards across multiple teams, and is accountable for the reliability, scalability, security, and delivery velocity of critical technology products. This individual acts as a force multiplier — elevating the capabilities of engineers across the department while remaining deeply hands-on with architecture, automation, and platform engineering.
What you'll be doing
A typical day in this role is hands-on engineering, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Success means helping teams move faster while making systems more reliable, secure, and scalable. You’ll work closely with fellow engineers and partners across the department to improve how software is built, deployed, and supported. As part of this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing automation solutions for platform management. You are also expected to lead the team and help the junior engineers in team to excel at the DevOps and automation best practices.
Automate infrastructure and platform management for cloud-native applications to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability
Strengthen engineering and operations standards by advancing coding practices, development workflows, and department best practices
Pilot emerging technologies and innovative approaches that help drive toward highly available, resilient applications
Automate mundane tasks to achieve engineering excellence
Support CI/CD excellence by improving deployment workflows, automation, and release reliability
Partner with team members to promote Agile practices, share knowledge, and contribute to a strong, collaborative engineering culture
Contribute to team growth through recruiting efforts, mentorship, and technical development support
Help shape modern DevOps capabilities across the team by bringing a continuous-improvement mindset to day-to-day work
What you bring
Technical Strategy & Architecture — Define and own the technical vision, architecture, and multi-year roadmap for cloud-native platforms, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation across the department
Platform Engineering at Scale — Design, build, and evolve self-service platforms and automation frameworks that improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability for multiple engineering teams
Standards & Governance — Establish and enforce engineering, operations, and DevSecOps standards, including coding practices, development workflows, and platform best practices adopted department-wide
Reliability & Resilience — Drive Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, define SLIs/SLOs, and lead initiatives that deliver highly available, resilient, and fault-tolerant systems
CI/CD & Delivery Excellence — Own end-to-end delivery pipeline strategy; improve deployment workflows, release reliability, and automation maturity across teams
Innovation & Technical Evaluation — Research, pilot, and lead adoption of emerging technologies; make build-vs-buy and platform tooling recommendations
Technical Leadership & Mentorship — Mentor senior and junior engineers, raise the technical bar, lead design reviews, and grow DevOps and automation competency across the organization
Cross-Functional Partnership — Partner with engineering leadership, security, and product teams to align technical direction with business goals; promote Agile practices and a collaborative engineering culture
Cost & Efficiency Optimization — Drive cloud cost optimization, resource efficiency, and automation of operational toil to achieve engineering excellence
Recruiting & Organizational Growth — Contribute to hiring through technical interviews, define technical competency expectations, and support the development of the broader engineering team
Added bonus if you have
Experience defining and implementing DevSecOps programs that embed security into delivery workflows at scale.
Experience establishing SRE practices, including SLI/SLO frameworks, error budgets, and incident-management maturity.
Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes), service mesh, and platform observability tooling.
Experience influencing enterprise technical strategy, architecture review boards, or technical governance forums.
Relevant professional certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP Professional Architect, CKA/CKAD).
Experience in a regulated industry such as financial services
Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and/or SRE operations
