Position Details

Assistant Teaching Professor of Psychology

The Department of Psychology at The University of Tampa invites applications for a full-time appointment as an Assistant Teaching Professor to begin August 2027.  This is a renewable, non-tenure track, instructional faculty position, with promotion opportunities.  Instructional faculty are respected members of the department and have the principal responsibility of providing instruction and support to students, and while instructional faculty are expected to maintain currency in their fields, they are not required to have a research agenda. Candidates should have a Ph.D in Psychology or be ABD in a Psychology program (subfield is open).

We are looking for someone with a passion for excellence in teaching and introducing students to the foundations of psychology. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching 16 credit hours (a typical class is 4 credits) per semester. Courses may include general psychology, introductory research methods and statistics, and other psychology courses including courses in the candidate’s subfield.  Other position responsibilities will include undergraduate student advising and committee service. Opportunities for winter and summer teaching may become available.

The Psychology Department at the University of Tampa currently has 22 full-time faculty and approximately 600 undergraduate majors. Undergraduates are offered a high-quality educational experience and are provided with instruction in the clinical, organizational, biopsychology, cognitive, social, and developmental subfields. Experiential education is emphasized with numerous opportunities for faculty-mentored student research, internships, and service learning.

Review of applications will begin on October 11, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.

Applicants should be prepared to attach a cover letter, curriculum vita, teaching philosophy, at least two recent teaching evaluations, and a copy of your graduate transcript. An unofficial transcript is acceptable for application; an official transcript will be required if offered the position. In addition, applicants will be requested to enter names and e-mail addresses for three (3) reference providers who will address your teaching experience.
