Infection Preventionist I

As an Infection Preventionist I, you will work in a direct patient-facing environment to implement, promote, and maintain an active infection prevention program. In this role, you will conduct surveillance and investigative activities while providing consultation and education to caregivers. You will contribute to policy development and research initiatives that support patient safety, reduce infection risks, and promote high-quality care.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., five days per week, with evening and weekend on-call shifts.

This position primarily works at Weston Hospital and Clinic, with travel to Coral Springs ASC and other ambulatory locations for monthly or quarterly rounding.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Conduct surveillance for hospital acquired infections and analyze data.

• Generate reports and identify trends.

• Provide recommendations for improvement.

• Investigate clusters of infections, outbreaks.

• Utilize knowledge of microbiology, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient care equipment.

• Develop and implement infection prevention policies and procedures.

• Conduct audits on infection prevention practices.

• Provide education and serve as a consultant to various levels of care providers.

• Coordinate infection prevention committee meetings and other related activities.

• Coordinate the annual infection prevention risk assessment, review, and evaluation of the organization's infection prevention plan.

• Report communicable diseases as required by the Ohio Department of Health.

• Collaborate with health departments in complying with issues related to outbreaks and control of communicable diseases.

• Comply with mandates for state and federal public reporting of hospital acquired infections.

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Bachelor's degree

• Three years of recent relevant clinical experience including nursing, infection prevention, respiratory therapy, or medical technology

• OR CBIC Certification and two years of recent relevant clinical experience including nursing, infection prevention, respiratory therapy, or medical technology

• Certified in Infection Control - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc (CBIC), within two years of hire date

• Strong communication, clinical assessment, and computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs)

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Registered Nurse

• Knowledgeable in Infection Prevention

• Four years of RN/clinical experience

• IP background

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
