Job Description
Shift Supervisor
Jackson, TN
Overview
To effectively coordinate and supervise production activities on the assigned shift, utilizing equipment, materials, people and support services, so that the plant meets budgeted objectives in a safe and efficient manner, while achieving customer’s quality expectations.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage Adjustor Supervisors, their subordinates and warehouse personnel to make sure their work runs on schedule and meets Company standards
- Demonstrate leadership, work with own team members to provide them with expectations, tools, training and timely feedback/accountability needed in order to be effective
- Responsible for training and development of new employees, providing timely feedback of their progress to trainee and management
- Promote a good employee/management relationship and a safe work environment to meet the plant’s overall objectives
- Ensure all company and safety policies are adhered to by all team members
- Responsible for daily manning and assignment of machines to achieve optimum objectives and schedule requirements
- Monitor equipment performance by making sure machines are maintained properly, running at proper speeds and producing quality products
- Track and keep production records for shift. Develop corrective action or improvement plan to address any variance from budget
- Demonstrate effective communication with other shift supervision and plant management in meeting plant objectives
- Monitor product produced to ensure quality standards are met at all times
- Monitor performance, minimize waste, and suggest improvements to plant management
- Work efficiently and effectively in addressing any issues
- Support other department and plant programs to achieve overall plant objectives
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Food Safety Practices
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management, including food safety
Requirements
- High school diploma required
- 5 years experience as an Adjuster Supervisor or 3-5 years successful experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in a lean manufacturing environment a plus
- Position requires individual who can make accurate and timely decisions regarding safety, product quality, production, and waste. Needs keen eyesight (no colorblindness) to spot errors. Will be responsible for identifying waste as it occurs and implementing corrective action
- Mechanical aptitude essential to understanding process and doing routine troubleshooting and problem solving
- Should have solid communication and supervisory skills because position interacts with all shift employees and is responsible for their progress
- Must implement corrective actions and keep Production Manager informed as necessary
- Should have general math, organizational management, and record keeping skills in order to maintain production records
- Should be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software
- Should take approximately one year to learn basic components of position

This position is responsible for:
- 11 Direct Supervisor Reports
- 50 Indirect Hourly Employees
Compensation
A reasonable estimate of the current range is $70,000 - $85,000 + bonus + benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job related skills, experience and relevant education or training. At Novolex, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
