We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Intern Software/Systems Engineer to join the Swift Sanctions Testing (STS) team in Kuala Lumpur. This 6-month internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in software development, DevOps practices, cloud technologies, and Agile delivery while contributing to a business-critical application used by financial institutions worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a cross-functional Scrum team alongside experienced developers, testers, product managers, and technical leads.
- Assist in the development, testing, maintenance, and enhancement of software components within the STS product.
- Learn and contribute to Java-based application development under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Support the implementation of software features and bug fixes based on user stories and technical requirements.
- Assist in writing and maintaining automated tests to improve software quality and reliability.
- Learn software engineering best practices, including code reviews, version control, testing, and documentation.
- Gain exposure to CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and DevOps tooling.
- Support troubleshooting and analysis of issues in development and test environments.
- Collaborate with team members across Malaysia and Europe in a multicultural environment.
- Participate in technical discussions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and design walkthroughs.
- Contribute ideas for process improvements and continuously develop your technical skills throughout the internship.
Education
Required
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of Java programming and object-oriented programming concepts.
- Understanding of software development fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Eagerness to learn new technologies and work in a collaborative environment.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Nice to Have
- Exposure to Java frameworks such as Spring Boot.
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit.
- Basic knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, or REST APIs.
- Exposure to Linux/Unix environments and command-line tools.
- Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts, containers (Docker), or CI/CD practices.
- Experience with university projects involving software development.
- Interest in automation, scripting, or DevOps practices.
- Interest in financial technology and payment systems.
Experience
- No prior professional experience required.
- Relevant academic projects, coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or open-source contributions will be considered an advantage.
