Position Purpose:
The OB Technician provides patient care under the supervision of the registered nurse. This care focuses on personal hygiene, nutritional needs and activities of daily living. Performs receptionist and secretarial duties on the clinical unit. Serves as a communication liaison on the clinical unit. Birth Center and Pediatrics are considered "sister" units and staff float are expected to float between these units.
What you will do:
Assures the medical record is adequately supplied and in proper order.
Assures the patient rooms are adequately supplies and in proper order.
Assures the workstation equipment is functioning appropriately, office supplies are adequate (not excessive) and maintains an updated working knowledge of new equipment and technology.
Obtains supplies per phone request and or places orders into Lawson and or notifies proper person to order needed supplies.
Transcribes and/or enters written physician orders, completes necessary forms, requisitions, and communication of all orders. approved/reviewed by RN. Places and maintains manual orders and prints appropriate downtime forms as needed.
Prioritizes requests for services and performs tasks in a timely manner, informing the clinical leader or charge nurse when workload is difficult to manage.
Assists with patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social and education needs and supports the patient's plan of care throughout patient’s stay.
Effectively communicates pertinent patient changes/conditions to the Registered Nurse and multidisciplinary team to achieve desired patient outcomes, and documents in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate/timely manner.
Provides for patient comfort, safety, and protects dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
Additional Functions:
Serves as a preceptor as needed.
Will float as needed to Pediatrics.
Hours/Schedule:
36 hours a week, 12 hour/Day shift
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Successful completion of formal Nurse Aide Course/training verified transcript or original program certificate of completion, required
OR
Currently enrolled in an A.D.N., B.S.N., program with successful completion of first semester of A.D.N. program, OR first year completion of nursing courses in BSN OR graduate of an A.D.N., Diploma, BSN or LPN program.
OR
Registered pm the State of Iowa Nurse Aide registry listing as "Active" or eligible, preferred.
Experience:
Nursing Assistant experience preferred
Experience in clerical role preferred.
Basic computer experience preferred.
Special Skills and Competencies:
Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs.
Self-motivated and detail-oriented individual.
