Location Requirement
Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the Corporate Office in West Des Moines, Iowa, and be able to regularly work onsite as needed.
Job Summary: HR Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring adherence to company drug and alcohol testing policies and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations, including those established by the Department of Transportation (DOT), as well as state and local requirements. This role oversees the administration of the company’s Drug & Alcohol Program, manages DOT compliance processes, and supports HR compliance initiatives to ensure regulatory integrity and operational efficiency.
Essential Job Duties:
Assist in reviewing motor vehicle reports (MVRs) and escalate eligibility concerns to compliance supervisor.
Request accident history and drug/alcohol testing records from previous employers using established workflows.
Perform basic FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse queries and document results.
Monitor the compliance inboxes; route inquiries and complete straightforward data entry tasks in accordance with guidelines.
Answer phone calls and emails related to compliance processes; escalate complex questions as needed.
Maintain electronic Driver Qualification (DQ) files by uploading documents, verifying accuracy, and flagging missing information.
Support compliance staff by running scheduled reports and preparing audit-ready documentation.
Coordinate routine drug/alcohol test scheduling, including random and pre-employment tests, following established procedures.
Communicate with testing facilities and providers to track completion of required services.
Enter and update compliance data in HRIS and tracking systems with strong attention to detail.
Assist with tracking medical card, certification, and license expiration dates; send notifications to employees and managers.
Uphold confidentiality standards, data security expectations, and company compliance protocols.
Provide general administrative support for the company’s Drug & Alcohol Program.
Process HR compliance invoices, including those related to drug/alcohol testing, medical certifications, citations, violations, and inspections.
Support Wright’s culture of safety and employee ownership.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Knowledge, Skills & Ability Requirements:
Basic understanding of DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and drug/alcohol testing procedures.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow structured procedures accurately.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn HRIS and compliance systems.
Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage routine tasks independently.
Strong customer service mindset when interacting with employees and vendors.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness to learn regulatory concepts, compliance processes, and industry best practices.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Education, Certification & Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in HR, Business, or related field
Minimum 1 year of administrative experience; experience in HR, safety, compliance, or transportation preferred
Experience with HRIS systems or data entry
Other Preferred Requirements:
Familiarity with compliance processes or DOT regulations a plus
Entry-level HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) beneficial but not required
