Under general supervision, the Groundskeeper performs a variety of manual work assignments associated with the care and maintenance of the grounds at Coppin State University.Responsibilities:
Assists landscape personnel with maintenance activities to include planting, transplanting, pruning, seeding, mulching, fertilizing and weeding.
Maintains roads, storm drains, and parking lots and to include ice and snow removal, removal of refuse, rubbish, leaves, dirt, etc., and tree removal.
Drives and provides routine preventative maintenance on Grounds vehicles.
Operates and maintains related hand and power equipment.
Assists and serves as back up to other trades.
Other related duties assigned. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE
Knowledge and background in general landscape maintenance, building/grounds maintenance.
Experience in the maintenance of lawn and sports field irrigation systems desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, telephones, copier Email, etc.
Operate and perform minor maintenance on related equipment; and possess a working knowledge of tools, equipment and landscape techniques related to landscape maintenance.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more and work in rain, snow, heat and cold for long periods of time.
Ability to promote and follow University System of Maryland policies, Coppin State University policies and department procedures.
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
Perform extensive walking, standing, climbing and frequent lifting; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
Conditions of Employment:
Criminal background check required for hire.
Valid and current driver’s license with no more than 5 points is required prior to hire.
Ability to complete the following training as required: forklift operation certification; lock out tag out, fall arrest, confined space, MSDS, ladder safety, emergency evacuation, in-house OSHA and respirator training.
