Job Description: Barista & Frozen Dessert Specialist

On behalf of our client, a new craft café and bakery built around the traditions of fermentation in food and beverage, we are seeking dedicated hospitality professionals for their flagship opening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Job Title: Barista & Frozen Dessert Specialist

Location: Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY

Employment Type: Full-Time (3 openings) / Part-Time (3–4 openings)

Pay Rate: $22.00 – $27.00 / hour (commensurate with experience)

  • Junior Level: $22.00 – $23.00 / hour

  • Mid Level: $24.00 – $25.00 / hour

  • Lead Level: $26.00 – $27.00 / hour

Shift Schedule (rotating shifts):

  • 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

  • 11:30 AM – 5:00 PM

About the Role:

As the face of our client's beverage, soft-serve, and shaved ice program, you will handle the full flow from taking orders to serving drinks and desserts. This is more than operating equipment. You will introduce guests to our fermentation-inspired beverage and dessert concepts, bringing expressiveness, precision, and genuine warmth to every interaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Opening & Setup: Starting up espresso machines and grinders, checking extraction settings, and verifying inventory and freshness of syrups, milks, and bases

  • POS & Payments: Entering orders, processing payments, and handling gift cards and coupons

  • Beverage Preparation: Pulling espresso, steaming milk, latte art, and preparing shakes and flavored drinks

  • Soft-Serve & Shaved Ice: Managing machine temperature and hygiene, preparing toppings, and plating

  • Guest Service: Confirming orders, handling allergy and custom requests, and communicating wait times during busy periods

  • Packaging & Fulfillment: Takeout packaging and handling mobile and delivery orders

  • Food Safety & Sanitation: Cleaning workstations and equipment, and keeping temperature logs in line with HACCP standards

  • Inventory: Checking stock of beans, syrups, cups, and packaging, and updating reorder lists

  • Closing: Disassembling and deep-cleaning equipment, prepping for the next day, and closing out the register

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Around 1+ year of barista experience preferred (open to motivated candidates; level assessed at interview)

  • Proficiency in espresso extraction and milk steaming

  • Customer-facing English communication

  • NYC Food Protection Certificate preferred

The Person We're Looking For:

  • An expressive communicator who is a "storyteller," not just an operator

  • A hospitality-first attitude that treats beverage-making as a craft and each interaction as a chance to connect

Core Skills:

  • Espresso Extraction / Milk Steaming / Customer-Facing English

Plus Skills:

  • Latte Art / Understanding of Specialty Coffee / Product Storytelling
