Counsel

Artisan Partners Limited Partnership has an opening for a Counsel position on our Legal team. In this role, Counsel will provide legal advice and support relating to Artisan’s business as an investment adviser, with a focus on mutual funds, private funds, other pooled investment vehicles, and separately managed accounts. This role presents the opportunity for broad exposure across the organization in a collaborative and supportive environment, with a commitment to development.

Location: Milwaukee, WI | Chicago, IL

Milwaukee preferred. Relocation offered. Other locations will be considered with regular travel to Milwaukee headquarters required.

Salary Range: $175,000 - $250,000

Specific placement within the provided range will be determined by an individual’s geographic location as well as relevant experience and skills for the role. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Associates may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon Firm and individual performance.

Responsibilities

The candidate is expected to:

• Advise investment, product, distribution, marketing, compliance, and other business teams on legal and regulatory matters affecting investment products and advisory activities
• Support the structuring, development, launch, and ongoing operation of registered and private investment products, including review of offering, governing, disclosure, and related documentation
• Assist with regulatory filings, fund governance matters, board materials, disclosure updates, and other legal requirements applicable to registered investment companies and other pooled investment vehicles
• Provide practical, solutions-oriented legal advice regarding the design, distribution, and promotion of investment products across distribution channels and geographies
• Review marketing, advertising, and communications materials relating to investment strategies, mutual funds, private funds, separately managed accounts, and other investment products for compliance with applicable securities laws and regulations
• Monitor and analyze regulatory, legislative, and industry developments affecting investment advisers, registered investment companies, private funds, and other investment products, and advise the business regarding their potential impact
• Partner with compliance and business stakeholders to evaluate and implement changes arising from new or evolving SEC rules, regulatory guidance, examinations, enforcement developments, and industry practices
• Support other legal department initiatives and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have strong analytical and organizational skills and great attention to detail. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess: 

• J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in at least one state
• 2 to 5 years of legal experience practicing law with a top-tier law firm that specializes in investment funds or corporate and securities law
• Experience in corporate or securities laws, with knowledge and practice in some or all of the Investment Company Act, Investment Advisers Act, 1933 Act, and 1934 Act
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
• Strong sense of ownership of tasks and responsibilities
• Ability and desire to work in multiple legal areas and with a broad set of business partners
• PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
